At roughly 5:27 pm Tuesday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a reported vehicle accident that overturned and took out a utility line and started a vegetation fire.

The incident closed down Kirker Pass in both directions due to a utility line blocking the roadway near Nortonville Road which also left a vehicle 100-yards off the roadway. As crews responded, there was also a charged barbed wire fence.

Due to poor access from the Concord side of Kirker Pass, crews were forced to respond from the Pittsburg using Bailey Road.

The incident also knocked out power to 1,774 PG&E customers at 6:15 pm with power expected to be restored before 9:00 pm.

Air support was also requested from CALFIRE to help battle the blaze which estimated to have burned around 15-acres around 7:00 pm.

Per Pittsburg Police at 7:04pm
CHP advises you to AVOID Kirker Pass Rd./Concord city limit due to current traffic congestion. The traffic accident involving downed power lines near Concord city limits will cause traffic backups and detours for the next 12 hrs. PG&E is on scene and assisting CHP.
