The Lodi News is reporting that former Antioch City Councilman and Contra Costa County Sherriff lieutenant Brian Kalinowski has accepted a position with the Galt Police Department. Kalinowski will replace former Lt. Jim Uptegrove who retired last month after 26 years of service with the department.

He will serve as the operations lieutenant and oversee many of the functions previously managed by Uptegrove including patrol, traffic and SWAT units.

Kalinowski has been working for the Sheriff’s Department for the last 22 years and as a lieutenant for the past six. He unsuccessfully ran for the elected position of sheriff-coroner in Contra Costa County in 2010 and has served as an Antioch City Council member. In that capacity, Kalinowski endorsed Lodi’s own Ricky Gill in his failed attempt at a U.S. Congress seat last year.

Kalinowski is set to begin his new position on Monday, August 5, 2013

Good luck to Brian, he really cared about Antioch when he was on the City Council. He was the only member who came to our neighborhood in time of need.

Good luck Brian. The city is in terrible shape and you had nothing to do with it! You are the best!

I wish you great success Brian. It was a honor to serve with you on the Antioch City Council where you served with honor and integrity. Contra Costa’s loss is Galt’s gain.

Good luck Brian – I still remember when you were in the academy and we worked together and I gave you that great raise. Let me know when you become the Chief.
