K-14: Legislature Sends Governor Paid Parental Leave Bill

by ECT

All K-14 Education Employees Will Receive Up to 12 Weeks of Paid Parental Leave

Sacramento, Calif. – Assembly Bill 2393, by Assemblymember Nora Campos (D-San Jose), passed the Legislature last week sending the bill to Governor Brown’s desk.  The bill will provide paid parental leave to all K-14 school employees, including classified employees and community college faculty.

“School employees should not have to choose between bonding with their newborns and having enough money to pay their bills. We need to ensure a balance between family and work for all employees,” said Assemblymember Campos.

The bill corrects an inequity in the law by providing paid parental leave to all school employees that work to education and raise our children. This bill ensures that an existing benefit, differential pay, is expanded to create a more compassionate and rational approach to parental leave.

AB 2393 is sponsored by the California Teachers Association (CTA) and California School Employees Association (CSEA), California Federation of Teachers (CFT), and the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges (FACC).
