Oakley—Ironhouse Sanitary District (ISD) received four prestigious awards of excellence from the San Francisco Bay Section of the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) on Jan. 20. The awards of excellence are for “Plant of the Year”, “Collection System of the Year”, “Newsletter of the Year” and “Community Engagement and Outreach: Project of the Year”.
“It is really an honor for Ironhouse to be recognized by our peers in the industry,” said Chad Davisson, ISD general manager. “I could not be more proud of the District’s employees and the hard work they do to provide the highest quality service to our ratepayers, and their commitment to keeping the environment safe.”
The “Plant of the Year” award recognizes the District’s accomplishments in compliance, innovative practices, cost effectiveness and superior plant performance.
The “Collection System of the Year” award recognizes the District’s efforts to protect public health and the natural beauty of the environment through pro-active practices of management, operations and maintenance.
The “Newsletter of the Year” award recognizes the District’s excellent community outreach and engagement efforts through the information provided in our quarterly Ironhouse Insider newsletter.
The “Community Engagement and Outreach: Project of the Year” award recognizes the District for the March 2016 Water Recycling Facility tour provided to 700 sixth-grade students, teachers and chaperones over two days. This tour included both Delta Vista and O’Hara Park middle school students as part of the Oakley Education Science Week program.
ISD maintains sanitary services for nearly 30,000 customers in the Oakley and Bethel Island area. The district treats approximately 2.5 million gallons of wastewater every day through its technologically-advanced Water Recycle Facility located north of Main Street near downtown Oakley.
CWEA works to enhance the education and effectiveness of California’s wastewater professionals through training and certification, dissemination of technical information and promotion of sound policies to benefit society through protection and enhancement of the water environment.
Nearly all of Ironhouse employees are members of CWEA and have received certification and training from CWEA sponsored programs.
CWEA’s awards program seeks to recognize outstanding achievements within the wastewater field, improve the professional status of all personnel working in the wastewater industry and related fields and stimulate public awareness of the importance of wastewater treatment to public health and the water environment.
As winners of the San Francisco Bay Section of the CWEA, ISD nominations will be sent to the statewide competition of the CWEA awards, which will be announced at the association’s conference in April.
