At 8:26 am Wednesday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a house on fire on Rose Avenue in the City of Oakley.

When Engine 53 arrived on scene, they located a duplex at the corner of Rose and W. Cypress with smoke and flames showing.

Firefighters began to make fire attack while working to protect the neighboring home in the duplex. Crews entered the home and knocked down the fire.

According to Battalion Chief Ross Macumber, the fire started near a space heater type device, but with everything inside the home destroyed, they could not identify the cause. The incident was still under investigation.
