High Wind Warning Issued Through Tuesday Afternoon

Along with a flood watch warning, the National Weather Service also issued a high wind warning in East Contra Costa until 3:00 pm Tuesday

According to the alert, southeast winds increase this afternoon and will continue through the night with the strongest southerly winds expected Monday afternoon and into the evening. They are expected to diminish overnight into Tuesday. Winds could reach 20-to-30 mph.

On Monday, wind gusts are expected to be 30-to-40-mph and by the afternoon and into the evening could reach as high as 60-mph.

The impacts of gusty winds could make driving difficult for drivers. Meanwhile, with saturated soil, it will continue to the risk of downed trees and powerlines. There is also potential for power outages. There also is the potential for property damage.

Late Saturday, a flood watch warning went into effect Sunday afternoon through late Monday night as heavy rainfall is anticipated to fall on already saturated soils, elevated streams, and filling reservoirs.

Impacts include enhanced runoff, flooding in low lying areas and waterway. Rising water levels/flooding in areal streams, creeks and rivers with increased risk of mudslides in steep terrain. They also warned of downed trees and power lines with damage or washed out roadways. There is also potential for flooding based on current flood warnings.

They are asking those who are in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should a flooding develop.
