Gunfire Sparks 11-Acre Grass Fire on Marsh Creek Road

At 2:30 pm Thursday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District and CALFIRE responded to the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Department gun range for a report of a vegetation fire.

Upon arrival, Battalion Chief 5 located a 3-acre fire with moderate spread and moderate slope. The fire was also burning up from the gun range over to the hill wards the Delta Valley Ranch rehabilitation camp.

By 3:00 pm, a Shelter in place was in order for Diablo Valley Ranch while the fire had grown to 5-acres.

The fire was limited to 11 acres with several fence posts damaged. The probable cause was listed as gunfire from Sheriffs gun range.

According to ECCFPD Chief Hugh Henderson, the District had two of its three engine crews on duty committed to the incident for over four hours.
