Governor Signs Frazier Bill to Place Electric Vehicle Charging Station Signage on Highways

by ECT

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Jerry Brown today signed AB 1633, a bill by Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Discovery Bay) that directs Caltrans to work with electric vehicle charging businesses to post signage on state highways.

“The state has set aggressive goals to get more electric vehicles onto our roads,” said Frazier, who chairs the Assembly Transportation Committee. “AB 1633 is another important step to achieving these goals and making electric cars a realistic and convenient transportation option for California’s working families.”

Under the bill, Caltrans will continue to regulate highway service signs, which have traditionally included fuel, food and lodging. AB 1633 adds electric vehicle facilities to the services that may be advertised on state highway signage.

Private service providers, electric utilities and others may then post signage to ensure that the public does not get left stranded on long stretches of highway without the ability to recharge electric vehicles. The bill helps to ensure public safety, consumer protection and advances development in the new energy economy.

“The signing of Assemblymember Frazier’s AB 1633 helps close significant gaps facing the electric-vehicle market, such as consumer awareness of the availability of electric-vehicle charging, and accessibility to charging for all Californians,” said Eileen Wenger Tutt, executive director of the California Electric Transportation Coalition.

Governor Brown has set the ambitious goal of reaching 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles in California by 2025, representing an important milestone in reaching the state’s overall environmental policy objectives. Battery electric and plug-in electric vehicles are important components of that equation.

As chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee, Assemblymember Frazier seeks to facilitate the achievement of the state’s transportation goals while keeping realistic implementation and consumer protection as primary objectives.

Isn’t this blowhard ever going to GO AWAY? He does NOTHING except put out money wasting bills!

Cal Trans is obviously overburdened as it is (no wonder they can’t stand him).

Jim Frazier is the poster boy for TERM LIMITS.
