Governor Brown has signed a bill by Senator Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) that will provide important protections for Californians looking to buy a new home. SB 652 requires anyone selling a home to disclose any construction defects claims made on that home. The bill received bipartisan support throughout the legislature, passing unanimously in the Senate and Assembly.

“For almost all Californians, buying a home is the largest purchase of their lives,” Senator DeSaulnier said. “Prospective homeowners deserve to know the history of any construction defects before making such a large financial commitment. SB 652 will require home sellers to disclose any claims made regarding construction defects on the property. I thank Governor Brown for his support in our efforts to stand up for consumers.”

SB 652 requires someone selling a home to disclose to a subsequent purchaser of the home any claim he or she made pursuant to the state’s pre-litigation process for construction defect claims and the status of that claim.
