Oakley’s Good Scents Florist is armed with plenty of red vases and white teddy bears, to go along with traditional long stem red roses for Valentine’s Day next Thursday. I encourage you to begin placing your orders as the busiest flower day of the year is quickly approaching.
The other day a picture of Steven Harland caught my eye as his head was placed within an array of red roses. Needless to say, I figured I’d check in with him about the upcoming big flower day. In speaking with him yesterday he shared that they are expecting his huge order of fresh roses on Saturday—look for the shop to be packed with roses!
The beauty about Good Scents Florist is they do fabulous work—and they are local! Some sites send flowers from a warehouse, uncut and unarranged in a plain brown box. But Good Scents Florist gives you better quality directly from the growers so they actually last longer.
“Our roses come directly from the growers and our bouquets are handmade,” said Harland. “We process the flowers correctly and spray them so it creates longevity so your flowers will last long.”
Harland explained that while mother’s day is his busiest time of the year, Valentine’s Day is by far his busiest day of the year. From his experience, it’s all about the dozen red roses.
“Nothing says I love you more than the classic long stem dozen red roses. It’s a classic,” said Harland with a big smile.
For those who do not like roses, Harland quickly pointed out that they offer many alternatives for those who prefer a burst of color.
“A spring mix highlighting both spring and summer colors is a good alternative for the price. We try and offer something for everyone,” explained Harland.
In fact, he has been providing something for everyone for nearly 22 years in Oakley as he started off with just a 5-gallon bucket on the side of the road with some roses. Today, the beautiful shop is located on Main Street across from the Oakley Chamber of Commerce.
Harland admits he got into the business because Oakley needed a flower shop at the time and wanted to meet new people each day while getting creative. Flowers seemed like a good challenge to get creative and it’s worked out.
Harland stated that he is a firm believer in shopping locally and supporting Oakley Business whenever possible. Here are a few shots I snapped yesterday during my visit.

The shop is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. They are closed on Sundays.

I have done business with them in the past and its world class service. The flowers did last a long time compared to when I buy from a grocery store. Love the pictures!
The best place in all of East County to buy flowers. You won’t regret it. They are nice people too!
Good Scent has done numerous flower arrangements for weddings at Brownstone Gardens. They are always beautiful and fresh. Also, when they say that they will deliver at 3 pm, they are there at 3 pm!!!
