Gioia Voted as Chair, Andersen as Vice Chair of Board of Supervisors

Martinez, CA – The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors chose Supervisor John Gioia as Board Chair and Supervisor Candace Andersen as Vice Chair at its January 15th, 2019 Board meeting.

District 1 Supervisor John Gioia who has served Contra Costa County since he was first elected in 1998, including four previous terms as Board Chair, takes the leadership role from outgoing Chair, Supervisor Karen Mitchoff of District 4.

Supervisor Gioia expressed his thanks to Supervisor Mitchoff as well as his readiness to tackle our County’s issues. “I appreciate Supervisor Mitchoff’s leadership in maintaining our County’s strong fiscal position.  As Chair, I intend to work with my colleagues to strengthen the County’s commitment to supporting our youth in a healthy environment, including establishing a special Board committee to reduce childhood asthma”, said Supervisor Gioia.

District 2 Supervisor Candace Andersen will serve as Vice Chair in 2019. She has served the County since 2012, including as Board Chair in 2016.

Both supervisors are incumbents who will lead the five-member elected body that sets the direction of county government and oversees its $3.74 billion budget to serve this large and diverse East Bay County.
