Fremont: Ace Train Derailment in Niles Canyon Injures 14, Search Underway

At 7:30 pm, an Ace Train derailed in Nice Canyon between Fremont and Sunol which sent a train car into the creek near Palomares Rd.

alameda-Conuty-fire-niles-crash-2According to Alameda a County Fire Dispatch, at least one train entered the creek where 5 ambulances were requested along with a boat rescue. Fremont Police and CHP were requested to assist with traffic and crowd control.

By 8:22 pm, dispatch stated there were 10 walking wounded with as many as 4-patients needing c-spine.

As many as 100 passengers were on the train at the time of derailment. Ace stated the route of the train is from San Jose to Stockton.

Update 8:37 pm
Per Alameda County Fire, a large tree that had fallen on the railroad tracks appears to have caused the derailment. Crews were preparing for a secondary search of the train car in the water. At least a 100 patients were still on scene.

At least  214 people reportedly on board when the train left Fremont Station.

We are working the ACE train derailment in Niles Canyon. We have no reported fatalities. An estimated 250 passengers were on board. We will be transporting non injured passengers to the Alameda County Fair grounds in Pleasanton for reunification with family. About a dozen people were transported to area hospitals with mostly minor injuries. The hospitals are Washington Hospital in Fremont and Eden Hospital in Castro Valley

Update: ACE Announces No Train Service on 3/8/16
