Frazier: Tunnels Proponents Should Admit They Have No Idea How Much WaterFix Will Cost and Kill the Project

by ECT
SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Discovery Bay), chair of the Legislature’s Delta Caucus, released the following statement after it was revealed in a letter to the federal government that the estimated cost of the WaterFix project has risen an additional 22 percent, to $20 billion, since estimates released just last year.
“This is one more example of the shell game we have come to expect from backers of the Tunnels project. I have said from the beginning they will never be able to contain the costs of this project, and it will spiral out of control. It is time for the Governor, the Department of Water Resources and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to own up and admit they have no idea how much this disastrous project will cost. It would be foolish to move forward with the most expensive infrastructure project in the state’s history while being totally in the dark about what the end cost will be to taxpayers.”
