FOMCW: We Would Like to Introduce You to the Marsh Creek Watershed

by ECT

So, you probably have a favorite spot on Marsh Creek.  Maybe you have a few- but have you seen all of it??  Well, we want to invite you on an adventure to see the Watershed in all it’s glory.

Join us this Thursday night (January 15) as we discuss a series of walks and hikes we will be doing over the next year. We will look at the geography of the creek and how it starts up on Mount Diablo and ends in the San Joaquin Delta at Big Break.

We will look at the history of the area – who lived here, some of the families that settled this area, the impact agriculture has had on Marsh Creek and the history of one of the first Flood Control Districts.  We will look at the wildlife and plant life in Marsh Creek and compare Upper Marsh Creek to Lower Marsh Creek. We will learn about an old Mercury Mine on Marsh Creek that has not been cleaned up yet. We will look at water quality and what influences impact water quality in Marsh Creek.  We will look at restoration efforts and the Marsh Creek Fish Ladder.  We will learn about the relationship cities have with our creek and we will learn about the Dutch Slough Project at the Mouth of Marsh Creek.  At the end we will look at Marsh Creek from Big Break and look towards where we began up on Mount Diablo.

At Thursday nights meeting we will be getting input from you on what else we should include.  is going to be a great adventure and we hope you will join us to learn and help teach!
