Five Napa Valley Wines You Should Try in 2016

by ECT

As we enter 2016, a new year brings new beginnings and more wine choices for that special event as new vintages will be released.

Joseph-Phelps-tastingWhile I typically will focus on local wine within the $10-$50 range, with the start of 2016, I wanted to put 5-wines and wineries on your radar for 2016 to try or visit. Due to the cost of these wines being in the $100+ range, by sharing them in January, it allows you some time to plan to purchase some high quality Napa wine.

These wine are perfect for that special event from an anniversary to an engagement, a birthday gift, a retirement or just for a quick day trip to Napa to to a break from the everyday grind known as life.

Here are five wines and wineries you should try this year in the Napa Valley area:

2012 Plumpjack Estate Cabernet
plumpjack-2012-CabPrice: $104

The long, mild growing season allowed for a long hang time with even ripening and outstanding flavor development and tannin maturity. The flavors coming out of our Estate vineyard in Oakville were absolutely amazing and these flavors have persisted throughout fermentation and aging. The fruit on the nose is intense and lively with aromas of black cherry and raspberry followed by iron, crushed granite, and sage, all laced with mocha and vanilla. This wine has a rich and concentrated palate with great structure and an enduring finish.

Editors Note – their 2013 Cabernet just received a 100 point score by Robert Parker.

To visit Plumpjack Cellars, they are located at 620 Oakville Cross Road, Oakville CA 94558.
They are open to the public daily from 10 am to 4 pm.

You may contact them at (707) 945-1220 or email [email protected]

I’m a avid reader and follower of ECT and I was reading an earlier article about the hash lab. I agree with some of the comments made about the hypocrisy on this site as even one of the main links on the website is to wine and many articles dedicated to it. As someone who has lost 2 family members as victims of drunk driving accidents, including one on highway 12, and a user of marijuana (I beat cancer 8 years ago), I think ECT should have a balance of opinion in the benefit of cannabis instead of highlighting just the bad. Because we all know there is a lot of negative to be said of alcohol use, even if it is wine.

Great list of wine as I’ve had most of them. I’ve tried the Silver Oak and you will all love it. The Quintessa is amazing! The Joseph Phelps is on my list for this spring.

Barbra. .. A winery is not based in a neighborhood Illegally brewing and rerouting PG&E to hide it’s existance.. It’s regulated Sold and monitored by law..It is packaged and has Warning labels. Weed and Hash is not.. When it is legally monitored grown properly and not at a danger to others in a neighborhood then ok.. But As of now there is no Legal Grow House to say look at these great Grow Houses that if you are in need of a Alternative Pain management medication let us list the best in the area.

I like a glass of fine wine now and then, and we enjoy visiting wineries. I’ve never driven under the influence of alcohol, and I never will. Anyone who thinks writing about wine (and wineries) is related to DUI’s either isn’t thinking very clearly, or they’re not very bright. My heart goes out to anyone who’s lost family (or friends) to DUI related incidents, but perhaps it’s best not to read alcohol related articles.
