Firefighters Rescue Man After Vehicle Travels 30 Feet Down Embankment

At 7:00 pm Tuesday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to Marsh Creek Road after a vehicle reportedly went off the roadway and down an embankment.

According to the fire District, CALFIRE was first on scene and located a solo vehicle accident off the roadway where it went down an embankment and into a creek. The occupant of the vehicle was still inside the vehicle and required extrication.

Firefighters mobilized and secured the roadway fire apparatus and CHP assistance. CALFIRE was able to extricate the patient from the vehicle and secured the patient into a stokes type basket. A low angle rope system was established with Station 52 and AMR where the patient was hauled up 30-ffet and transferred to AMR care.

A medical helicopter was requested with one male patient, in his 20’s, transported to John Muir Medical Trauma Center due to complaint of neck pain.

The cause of the incident is undetermined and is currently under investigation by CHP.
