At 10:27 am Thursday morning, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a traffic collision on Vasco Road about 3 miles from Camino Diablo that required a medical transport. One of the vehicles caught fire as crews arrived and they worked quickly to put the small fire out before it became a big problem. Crews were on scene for roughly an hour and a half.
East County was lucky today as the wind was not blowing has hard, unlike yesterday when it was fierce and strong. With the fields now brown, this is the type of incident that could have gotten out of hand pretty quickly and become a complete disaster with a little wind—Chief Hugh Henderson agreed.
“The crew did a good job containing the fire to the area of origin. Yesterday’s wind could’ve added potential hazard due to the dry grass in the area,” said Henderson.
