At roughly 5:26 am, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a residential structure fire in Knightsen which left a home in ruins.
The call originally came in as a reported barn fire in unincorporated Brentwood, however, upon arrival crews found a fully involved residential structure with the roof already collapsing into the structure. Engine 54 was first on scene due to crews having trouble locating the fire off of Delta Road in Knightsen due to conflicting reports of the address.
The fire was extinguished without incident which required all five stations response. Although Engine 93 was first to be released from the incident by 6:30 am, other units remained on scene for a total of 4-hours and 12-minutes. There were no injuries reported.
The home was reportedly undergoing renovations and was unoccupied. There was also no furniture inside. The fire is being considered “suspicious” in nature with an unknown cause.

Nice photos. People better wake up to know that the stations will be reduced to 3 soon. Bless these firefighters
Where was the 94 engine from Knightsen? The first response had to come from Brentwood.
Sure am glad the hose draggers are all smiles while someone’s home is a smoldering mess….. I’ll make sure I pose for a photo at the next homicide scene… Oh wait nobody hates Americas Hero’s except East County taxpayers
Mad scooter it may appear in bad taste when a firefighter is smiling after a complete loss of a home. But this situation is much different. This house was a known grow house that was watched for many months by local P.D. There were no residents living in it, no valuables lost and of course no injuries. It nice to see that people can still smile after all they have been through. Maybe putting out a fire is a feeling of accomplishment, pride and knowing you did a good job. Give these men some credit, I’m sure they deserve it.
Maybe they were smiling because they were contact high.
east county fire is a joke. These are supposed to be trained firefighters? couldn’t find the fire.Due to conflicting adresses? heres a thought find the big glowing thing.
Given that Knightsen is basically pitch black during the night/early morning hours, a glow in the middle of a large property could have multiple driveways to choose on what the actual address is. The address reported by a caller did not match the actual location of the fire. A second caller gave a vague area. I’d cut them a break on this one.
Thank you proving yet again that some people are clueless regarding this area. Find the large glow could mean that the fire is miles away, access is difficult or from another area, etc. Its the RP’s responsibility to give good information and directions. I have seen fire roll out many times and have to turn around and access the fire from another road. Anyone remember the fire on Holland Tract last year? Every unit in our Fire dept was rolling out to BI when 94 was able to determine that the fire where the fire was. Everyone had to turn around and go to Delta Rd in Knightsen to get to the fire.
@Tim,
Before pointing a finger at others, you need to get your own house in order.
What’s wrong, couldn’t find the space bar? Couldn’t find the shift key? Couldn’t figure out where to insert a comma or how to use punctuation while attempting to degrade others?
Erin, I rarely get involved in responses to those that like to stir the pot (in this case Tim, not you!) but your response was brilliant! And yes, our firefighters rock!
