At 1:40 pm Sunday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews responded to a residential structure fire which was fully involved upon rival.

The fire was located on the 1200 block of Sunset Drive and had flames shooting out the home which also sent a thick layer of black smoke onto Highway 4.

Prior to firefighter arrival, an Antioch Police officer hopped the chain link fence to free a dog (pictured below) from the blaze and bolt cutters were used to open the gate to get the dog a safe distance from the home.

The fire shut down Sunset Drive as crews worked and by 2:00 pm the fire was under control. CONFIRE was on scene for just under 2-hours.

Great photographs and I am sorry to the homeowners for their loss. Antioch PD has proven once again to be amazing with what resources they have in rescuing the dog. I applaud CONFIRE and their efforts yesterday as they were busy.
