Fire Crews Unable to Locate Reported Body in Antioch Canal

by ECT

At around 7:25 pm, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District received a call about a person jumping into the canal on Lone Tree Way and James Donlon Blvd. adjacent to Sutter Delta Hospital.

According to Battalion Chief John Kipp, crews were on scene within 2-minutes and they set up five rescue check points from Antioch to Pittsburg for about 2.5 hours along the Delta De Anza Regional Trail.  Crews waited as the water level was lowered so that they could get a better visual of the cancel.

It was ultimately called off as no body was found.

There are unconfirmed reports that an AMR medic jumped into the water to rescue the victim, but he was unsuccessful. That being said, the medic could be on scene damp and without shoes.

According to Battalion Chief Kipp, Sutter Delta Medical Center is the one who made the call and witness the victim go into the water.

It’s unclear at this time if the victim was a Sutter Delta Medical Center patient seeking treatment, escapee from a 5150, or if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
