Felon Shot by Pittsburg Police Released from Hospital, in Custody at County Jail

The Pittsburg Police Department issued an update Thursday relating to the officer involved shooting that sent a wanted felon to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to Police, Worsten Mack Andrews was medically cleared from the hospital Tuesday evening and is currently in custody at County Jail. Police say upon investigation, evidence relative to Human Trafficking as well as firearms and drugs were located at Andrews’ residence.

Detectives are currently following up on additional information and will be preparing a criminal case to be formally reviewed by the District Attorney’s early next week.

On Tuesday at roughly 2:45 pm Tuesday, Pittsburg police shot Andrews in the leg after the he removed a firearm from his waistband and brandished it at the officer.

According to Captain Ron Raman, officers received information that a Andrews was in the area of Andrew Avenue and N. Parkside Drive with Andrews considered armed and dangerous and was wanted for a Parole Violation.

Captain Raman highlighted that officers were aware of Andrews background which included arrests and convictions for manslaughter, carjacking, assault with deadly weapon, human trafficking and drug related charges.  The suspect has also been in an out of prison since 1999.

According to police,  Andrews was uncooperative and evasive where he fled from an officer.  The officer then attempted to detain Andrews by deploying his taser which had no effect where Andrew’s then removed a firearm from his waistband and brandished it at the officer.

Raman says an officer was forced to fire one shot at Andrew’s striking him in the upper leg area.  He was detained and transported to a local hospital where he is expected to be released this evening.

The officer involved in this incident is a 15 year veteran with the Pittsburg Police Department.

This incident is being investigated jointly with the Pittsburg Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office.
