Feb 4-5: East Contra Costa County Events

by ECT

Here are a look at a few events going on in East Contra Costa County over Super Bowl Weekend:

9:00 am – Antioch Police Neighborhood Cleanup
The Antioch Police Department will host its 78th installment of the Neighborhood Cleanup Program. Cleanup event will occur on Saturday, February 4th 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. We will be cleaning the neighborhoods adjacent to Knoll Park and surrounding streets. Volunteers will meet on Valley Way and park along the curb next to Knoll Park

Volunteers will receive instructions and the equipment necessary to accomplish the goal. The targeted area is within walking distance. Excluding inclement weather, future Neighborhood Cleanup events are scheduled for the first Saturday of every month and the locations will be announced in advance.

This is a collaborative community effort which involves active participation from The Antioch Police Department Crime Prevention Commission; Neighborhood Watch Program; Volunteers in Police Service; community volunteers and the Public Works Department.

2:00 pm – El Campanil hosts Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra

Adults: $15
Seniors (62 & Over): $12
Students: $7

Formed in the late 1970s, the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra has established a presence throughout the county.  The orchestra is comprised of forty-five musicians ranging in age from 15 to 94 who are music teachers, accountants, students, electricians, mechanics, homemakers, lawyers, retirees, dentists, engineers and computer specialists. Primarily Contra Costa residents, their only remuneration is the stimulation and satisfaction of rehearsing and performing together.  In addition to the five-concert season at the Lesher Center, the orchestra also nurtures its dedication to the community by providing affordable performances to the residents of East Contra Costa County at El Campanil Theatre.

The Song portions of our program feature well-known Bay Area Lyric Colatura Soprano, Elizabeth Hunter Ashley (who sings the soprano solos with CCCO in our annual Sing-A-Long Messiah performance). She will sing four iconic and virtuosic arias from operas by Puccini, Verdi, Johann Straus, Jr. and Bernstein. The Dance portion of the program features a wide variety of dance styles, including the Waltz form Khachaturian’s Masquerade Suite, and Arturo Marquez Danzon No. 2, made popular by Gustav Dudamel and the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra.
