Feb 11: Brentwood Library to Host Drag Queen Storytime

by ECT

The Brentwood Library welcomes drag queen Bella Aldama to storytime. This all ages program will include storybooks focusing on love and inclusiveness, followed by a craft.

Drag Queen Storytime will take place at the Brentwood Community Center on Monday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and sponsored by the Friends of the Brentwood Library.

Drag Queen Story Hour originated at the San Francisco Public Library, and celebrates diversity and empathy. Brooklyn librarian Judy Zuckerman describes it as “a fun and important program that celebrates diversity in the way that children may dress and act. It encourages children to look beyond gender stereotypes and embrace unfettered exploration of self.

Programs like Drag Queen Story Hour encourage acceptance of difference and help to prevent bullying, while providing an enjoyable literary experience.”

For more information, contact the Brentwood Library at (925) 516-5290.

Are you crazy?
What a bunch of crap!
Boycott this!
Childhood is difficult enough already, we don’t need this propaganda! ?????

Alejandro Jan 31, 2019 - 3:14 pm

By all means please stay home ray.

Danielle Feb 6, 2019 - 1:17 pm

The simple response to this is if you dont like it, dont bring your children to it. No need to spread hate where hate needn’t be. This world is chock full of hate right now! Dont teach your children that hate is the norm, it. Should. Not. Be! Raise your children to love. End of story. Hate is unnecessary!

Elizabeth Feb 6, 2019 - 7:20 pm

Ray, we live in Brentwood and we are not stepping into any of their libraries ever! They have no right to use our tax dollars to help promote perversity!

Raquel Jan 31, 2019 - 9:29 am

“This propaganda” will be a fun day for kids to not only explore their sense of self but just listen to a fun story that will also teach them about acceptance in the process. I’m very glad to see the Brentwood Library will have an even like this and I hope they continue to have events like this in the future. Anyone that has a problem with this simply doesn’t have to attend. Teaching your child love and acceptance is a wonderful thing!

Go climb back into your hole of homophobia, Ray. I think this would be great for kids, it’s an important lesson in acceptance.

Shut up Feb 2, 2019 - 9:58 am

A hole is generally underneath so you wouldn’t have to climb back in. You would jump back or bo back into the hole. Also, this is not a lesson children need accept.

Boy from Brentwood turned Drag Queen Feb 2, 2019 - 8:01 pm

Thanks for clearing up where a hole is generally located. Now can you clear up what it means to “bo back into the hole?” Because I’d prefer you to go back into that hole if you don’t understand the importance of this “lesson.”
I’m very pleased with the city of Brentwood giving this opportunity for parents and children to partake in. I wish I had it when I was growing up in that small, close minded town.

As far from Corntown as possible Feb 6, 2019 - 12:56 pm

“Small, close minded town” SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE UNEDUCATED UPPITY PARENTS IN THE BACK!!!

Lisa Osborne Jan 31, 2019 - 12:17 pm

Love, Love, Love!!!

Robert Jan 31, 2019 - 1:33 pm

By all means, if you’re not OK with accepting others as they are and celebrating the diversity of our community, do boycott this. Stay home and let the rest of us enjoy a fun event with our families.

Emily Burns Feb 6, 2019 - 7:09 pm

Robert, “diversity” is DIVISIVE!

Julia Jan 31, 2019 - 3:33 pm

How fabulous! ?

Melanie Jan 31, 2019 - 5:03 pm

Diversity is one thing. Drag queens – another story. There are healthier things for young children.

Simonpure Jan 31, 2019 - 6:18 pm

Just try and shelter the children from reality and see what happens. Teach to learn. Don’t teach to hate. The kids will have fun no matter. It’s not just another story.

JackieLayshun Jan 31, 2019 - 7:09 pm

I’m a drag queen and the children that attend our all-ages drag brunch and story times in San Jose love the events. There’s nothing “unhealthy” about a drag queen. It’s just dress up.

Melanie Feb 1, 2019 - 8:48 am

I read a 2015 article (online) that drag queens were banned from a gay pride parade for being “offensive.” If the gay pride parade won’t accept them, why should the library? Or the rest of us? It’s unhealthy whether you believe it or not.

You tried it Feb 3, 2019 - 6:07 am

Girl where? You’re reaching now and it shows.

Melanie Feb 3, 2019 - 12:45 pm

Google “Gay pride parade bans drag queens” and there are three websites where you can read about it.

Dailywire.com. clashdaily.com and angelsoftruth.com.

WE CLEAR?

Lola Saavedra Feb 6, 2019 - 7:10 pm

You got it, Melanie!

Barbara Jan 31, 2019 - 7:07 pm

There are so many things that children are too young for. This definitely is one of them. Our government is already too much in our parenting. I’ll bet my right hand this is a government pushed program.

JackieLayshun Jan 31, 2019 - 7:11 pm

Actually, Barbara, it’s usually not. In San Jose, the local government has nothing to do with our story hour. It’s a collaboration between the early childhood education library program and Silicon Valley Pride.

eileen Jan 31, 2019 - 10:18 pm

Barbara good bet you can keep your right hand. The library is a tax funded government institution; only officially approved programs get to put on their displays. The Ca public school k-12 program is in close collaboration with gay pride ideology, coincidentally or not. The sex-ed book used in the system is “Who Are You?: The Kid’s Guide to Gender Identity” by Brook Pessin-Whedbee which you can find on amazon. Some of the illustrations are shockingly graphic – depicting children in sex acts. This link takes you to portions of the elementary section of “sex-ed facts” from the Ca. Dept. Ed. curriculum Guidelines -excerpt:”Instruction Guidelines California Department of Education http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/he/cf/ Chapter 3 Transitional Kindergarten Through Grade 3, Growth and Development (G), Line 1065 “Dispelling myths about gender expectations in KINDERGARTEN can lay the groundwork for acceptance”. http://sex-ed-facts.com/elementary-school/

PattyOfurniture Jan 31, 2019 - 7:50 pm

My kid is confused enough. We’ll stay home. No thanks. He can sort it out when he’s 18 and goes to the city and asks himself WTF!? Ask yourself this, if you went home with someone and you found out it was a Ladyboy, would you tell anyone? Life decisions…

Chris Jan 31, 2019 - 8:27 pm

I’m all for inclusiveness and I think it is awesome that they are doing this. I really hope Bella doesn’t push her ideology onto these children though. Kids are easily impressionable. I watched a video where a Bella asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grow up and one boy said, “A Super Hero”. Bella said oh yes you can be a “Drag Super Hero”. Why does it have to be drag, why cant the boy just be a super hero.

Tommy Jan 31, 2019 - 8:29 pm

You think this is bad? California is pushing to teach kindergarten’s that there at 15 genders….

Martin NMN Feb 6, 2019 - 7:18 pm

Do they also list hermaphrodites as a gender? That one might be difficult to assess.

Nick Jan 31, 2019 - 8:37 pm

If you don’t think drag queens are unhealthy for kids, you’re not thinking clearly. They’re kids, not mature adults. Unbelievable.

TryLove Jan 31, 2019 - 8:51 pm

Teaching children about not judging based on appearance is how we raised our daughters and they can love without limits. Education over judging, love over hate, don’t be afraid of people who are different then you. Hopefully events like this will help raise a new generation of educated, compassionate and empathetic people. Embrace people for what’s on the inside, not in the outside, let’s reduce hate, bullying or unkind behavior for something they are afraid of, and support self acceptance for all the teens who think suicide is there only option because they are different. I will be there with my granddaughter.

Alisha Jan 31, 2019 - 11:45 pm

Love always wins! We will be there and the haters can stay home and hate while we have fun! ♥️

tammy Feb 6, 2019 - 7:15 pm

Alisha…. Speaking of hate Have you ever seen the 1959 Charlton Heston film, “BEN-NUR?” If you did then you’d remember the line the Jack Hawkins character says to the Heston one, ” I see hate in your eyes, 41!
Hate is GOOD, 41! Hate keeps you ALIVE!” If you haven’t seen the film and familiarize yourself with the story, you should find the film and do so.

tammy Feb 8, 2019 - 1:04 pm

Sorry! The title of that film is “BEN-HUR” — my finger slipped!

Annie Atkinson Feb 1, 2019 - 4:01 pm

Why is it that people who don’t approve or dislike something are called “haters?” They just don’t think it is right. They are stating and owning their opinion. We can choose to teach our children to love others without introducing them to adults who like to dress up as the opposite gender they were given at conception. Those of you that agree with this presentation and want to see it, by all means. But, please don’t call us haters-it goes against they very lesson you are trying to teach on that day.

Jason Barker Feb 8, 2019 - 1:10 pm

Annie, liberals latched on to the word “haters” because they like to inject emotion into a situation. They rarely use their limited brain power. It’s like calling someone “racist.” That’s so overused that it’s now meaningless. Some can’t even define the term.

Kathy Feb 1, 2019 - 5:00 pm

You can teach children to not hate without exposing them with a lifestyle that is beyond their level of maturity to understand. To say it’s only “dress-up” is disingenuous.

Chris Feb 1, 2019 - 7:12 pm

Bet they will never have a priest or nun do a reading there

Fuck Brentwood Feb 1, 2019 - 10:43 pm

Haters?!?!? Lmao a black drag queen? Now kids are going to be fucked more than their stupid ass parents that allow them to go. You fags in Brentwood are unbelievable!!!!

Elisse Feb 10, 2019 - 9:25 pm

What’s the difference between a “Drag Queen” and a Transvestite?

Simonpure Feb 13, 2019 - 9:03 am

Elisse…the only difference is a “Drag Queen” does it for purposes of entertainment.

Christil Feb 11, 2019 - 12:59 am

I think everyone should keep their negative comments to themselves if u dont approve of the event then don’t attend but I think it would be good for kids an will teach them that bullying is simply not ok. Kids r learning young that they want to be different an get made fun of all three time for doin so an them they end up committing suicide an its not right. I have sister who is a transgender so I know what people go thru so I’m for the drag queen storytime an those who aren’t can go fuck off an stop being negative
