Fairfield: Man Shot By Clerk During Robbery Attempt

by ECT

The following information was released by the Fairfield Police Department.

Fairfield Police responded to a call of a robbery with shots fired on Sunday afternoon.  The initial call came in at 12:40PM, reporting a man pulled a gun inside of a smoke shop in the 2100 Block of North Texas Street.  As officers were responding another person called 911 and stated the clerk had shot someone.

Officers arrived on scene, entered the store, and found a man lying on the floor bleeding from the chest.  Officers rendered aid to the man until paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital.  Officers spoke to the clerk and several witnesses who stated the man who had been shot entered the store wearing a mask and then pulled a gun from his waistband while trying to rob the store.  The clerk, fearing for his safety and the safety of the people in the store, pulled out his own gun and shot the man in the chest.

Officers recovered the suspect’s gun, which turned out to be a realistic-looking BB gun.

Detectives were called to the scene to assist in interviewing witnesses.  The suspect is in critical condition at a local trauma center.  The clerk is not facing charges as his gun was legally possessed and he shot the suspect in self-defense.

The suspect’s identity is not being released at this time.

A win for the legal and law abiding gun owner. Hope the fool lives to make amends and turn his life around.
