Events: Pittsburg Seafood and Music Festival Highlights Weekend Activities

Pittsburg Seafood festival

With warm weather expected this weekend, its a great time to get out and enjoy the many events East County is offering this weekend. Here is a list of this weekends events and happenings which offers a variety of options for those who do not want to sit around and watch football all weekend long.

Friday – September 6th  

California Zinfandel Championship Dinner, Pittsburg’s Marina Green, 51 Marina Blvd, Pittsburg. Pittsburg hosts the 17th annual Zinfandel Championship which rates the top Zinfandel wines from all of California. This event includes a 4 course Cuban inspired menu catered by Scotts Seafood Grill and Bar of Walnut Creek.  A bottle of each of four Double Gold wines will be placed at each table.  $75/person or $600/table of 8. Liberty High School Presents The Taming of the Shrew, The Allan E. Jones Performing Arts Center on the Liberty Campus, 850 Second Street, Brentwood. With spectacular sets, authentic costumes and great actors, Liberty High School proudly presents Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew.  The Shrew, a hilarious comedy in which Petruchio (Played by Nick Teixiera) must woo the stubborn Katherine (played by Allie Re) in order for her younger, more desirable sister Blanca (played by Danielle Reyes) to find a proper suitor.  The play is presented on the following dates: September 6, 7, 12, 19 and 20th at 7pm; September 14th at 11am, and September 21st at 2pm. Cost:  $10.50 for the general public, $8.50 for senior citizens and students with a valid ID, $6.50 for Playmaker’s Members.  Discounted shows: September 12, 14 and 19.  Any questions may be directed to Helen Dixon: [email protected].

 

Saturday – September 7th            

smith family farm tomato festival

The 2nd Annual Tomato Festival, Smith Family Farms, 4430 Sellers Ave, Brentwood, beginning at noon and through 7pm.  In addition to the tomatoes and fun, there will also be booths for local groups such as the PCFMA and Save the Delta. Tickets are $10 and proceeds will benefit the Liberty High School Band Boosters. The event includes tomato tastings, farm tours, cooking demonstrations, hay rides, live music, arts and crafts and ag business vendor booths. For more information, call 925-625-5966. Garin Apple Festival, Garin Regional Park, 1320 Garin Ave, Hayward.  This event is packed with fun your family. Garin is an antique apple orchard that features 180 varieties of apples, including some you won’t find anywhere else.  Try hand-cranking apple ice cream or pressing your own apple cider; then taste your creations.  There will be music, dancing, crafts, food and old fashioned games.  This is a free event.  Parking is $5. Saturday and Sunday – September 7th -8th    

Pittsburg Seafood and Music Festival, Old Town on Railroad Ave, Pittsburg.  This two day seafood extravaganza features 100 arts and crafts vendors, 50 seafood and non-seafood vendors, carnival rides, petting zoos and 3 stages with music from around the globe. Hours: 10am – 7pm Saturday and 10:30am – 6pm on Sunday

Sunday – September 8th          

East Contra Historical Society BBQ, Byer/Nail Museum, 3890 Sellers Ave, Brentwood. This old-fashioned BBQ flows from the front porch of the Byer/Nail Museum and into the historic grounds. Activities and entertainment include: an extensive civil war exhibit, music by the Brentwood Concert Band, the Brentwood Spinners will be spinning their wheels, blacksmithing, an archeological dig pit for kids, collecting eggs from the chicken coop, gold panning, and you can try your hand at milking cows.  Dinner includes tri tip with Brentwood corn, tomatoes, beans, rolls and a delicious dessert.  Cost:  $20 adults, $10 kids (6-12) and kids 5 and under are free.  This event is an annual fundraiser for the Byer/Nail Museum.  The museum doesn’t receive any government funding and benefits our community with educational programs for schools.

Discovery Bay Corvettes presents Summerfest, 2013 all Corvette Show, The Streets of Brentwood, 2565 Sand Creek Rd, Brentwood. Classic cars, shopping, dining and more.  Awards at 3:30. Raffle prices and silent auction. 8am – 5pm.

Freedom and Liberty High Alumni Football Car Wash, 1050 Neroly Road, Oakley. 11am – 1pm.  Freedom and Liberty High Alumni will be washing cars and accepting donations. Proceeds will benefit athletic programs at both schools. Tickets to the Freedom High vs. Liberty High Alumni Football Game (takes place September 14th) will also be on sale at a discounted price of $8.

I don’t know one person who went to the SeaFood Festival. Have they stated their attendance figures yet?
