Around 2:15 p.m. this afternoon, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a call at Carpaccio’s Restaurant in Oakley for a person stuck in the elevator. Fire crews worked to get the person out of the elevator and at around 2:36 pm it was upgraded to a tactical rescue.

Update 8:14 pm

Chief Hugh Henderson was kind enough to provide me with an update after the incident was completed.

Engine 193 arrived on scene to find elevator with doors that would not open with one employee in the elevator. Fire crews worked with the site manager on the ground floor to try and get the unit to open with elevator keys.

The elevator company was eventually contacted by the job site superintendent where Engine 93 was talked through getting the elevator down and doors open. After a series of procedures, the employee from inside the elevator was able to open the door from the inside.

According to the report, the employee was very upset when he exited the elevator. Engine 193  sat the employee down and found his blood pressure was very high. Engine 193 requested AMR to transport the patient to the hospital. The patients’ blood pressure was high for up to 20 minutes after getting out of elevator.

This is what a city promoted project and funding gets us? An elevator that breaks down less than a month after they open?

Probably a fluke, but I’ll be sure to take the stairs.

Could have happened to any business…. could have been worse. I am hoping the business succeeds as it will be a draw to the downtown to go along with Black Bear, La Costa and the new Ace.

Poor Carpaccio’s, they can’t catch a break in Oakley.

There wouldn’t be these problems if Antioch had been willing to put Chef Munoz into the Humphry’s building. They knew a long time ago rent wasn’t being paid.

I am with you, we had a good laugh. all I could thing of was Murphy’s Law, if it can go wrong, it will. Who would have thought you could get stuck in an elevator in a brand new building.
