Contra Costa to Host Ag Stakeholder Working Group in East County

Knightsen, CA – Contra Costa County Department of Conservation and Development (DCD) will hold its first public meeting to review the County’s agricultural land use policies at the Knightsen Farm Bureau at 3020 Second St. in Knightsen from 10 am—12 pm on June 21st.
This will be the first in a series of public meetings to define goals for the future of agriculture in Contra Costa County.
The initial meeting will focus on a vision and goals for the future of agriculture. County staff will explain prior voter initiatives and current policies and report on their initial work to examine approaches used in other counties to increase the economic vitality of agricultural lands. The report will be followed by a presentation from Stephanie Cormier, Farmbudsperson and Principal Planner in the Yolo County Department of Agriculuture. The meeting will conclude with a breakout into groups to discuss goals for improving and sustaining agriculture.
“It’s important to me that everyone has an opportunity to participate in the process of reviewing these ordinances,” said Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis. “Farming is incredibly important to this community and what we’ve heard from our farmers is that the business of farming has changed. This stakeholder group will look at what we can do to allow farmers to grow their businesses while preserving agricultural lands.”
