ECCFPD Firefighters Work to Prevent Flooding at Station 54

station 52 flooding 2

With today’s rain coming down heavily between Noon and 2:00 pm,  it has caused East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters from station 54 in downtown Brentwood to address a flooding issue at the station.

During the heavy rains, the station is prone to flooding according to one firefighter.

A flood warning was put in effect by the National Weather Service which ended at approximately 2:15 pm.

The following photos were provided by Cathy Daniel of Ridgewater Real Estate Services.

City of Brentwood needs to fix this. Firefighters should be out protecting the public, not making sure their own station is safe from flooding.

Ridiculous. Going on for years and they have never done anything about it?

They have no money!

They have no money!

They have no money!

Can’t fix a problem without funding. Get used to it.

Bone wood speaks with forked tongue AGAIN. The district has a maintenance fee account that cannot be used for firefighter salaries. It can be used for this kind of stuff. The City does not have the authority to gift the district money. It’s OK they get paid for 56 hours straight. Im sure there is some time in there to clean up the mess.

Walkersplanet Nov 20, 2013 - 11:04 pm

If it were a one-time situation I’m sure there would be time to clean up the mess but as an on-going situation? What an ineffective use of resources! And to look at their 56 hour schedule and assume that they should be working 56 hours straight? The last thing I want is some bone-tired, weary firefighter who has been up keeping his station dry responding to a family member of mine who is in cardiac arrest or suffering from asthma attack.

Really? Then why is it an on going problem then?

Your stupidity is stunning. You have that going for you…Jerk.

My response was directed at ECVs brother-not Walkersplanet

I agree with Walkersplanet.

Really.. they are available for emergency responses, physical fitness, training, reports, eating and finally what about rest. If ur mom had a heart attack would you want them ready to respond or cleaning up their station that they LIVE IN! You would be the guy complaining it took too long to get to ur house. But instead ur basically complaining they have nothing better to do with their 56 hours a week. Would you live in ur house if it were flooded? You are just uneducated on the topic and speaking out if ur ???.

WalkersPlanet, Bwood, Mike and BS2,
Go easy on my little brother. He has mental issues, lacks a filter between his brain and his mouth and has no credibility.

Just ignore him. He is used to it.

Fire stations are public buildings. They are a designated safe place for your child or someone in need to go to. They should not be hazardous especially during a a weather event. Regardless of work schedule or hours ( they don’t work 56 hours straight by the way) they deserve a dry, safe place to live a 3rd of there life.

ECVsBrother Nov 21, 2013 - 8:13 pm

Sorry BS2, You are right. They definitely deserve a clean dry warm place because they get paid to sleep too.

Ur an idiot

Time for several reality checks…

First, a clogged storm drain outside the station caused water backup into the equipment bay, which often has water on the floor dipping from engines. The drain was cleared and the crew pushed the water out with squegees. Living quarters were not affected, as they are in the back and raised. I can’t speak to City of Brentwood and storm drain cleaning, but unusually heavy rains in autumn usually cause these kind of problems all over.

Brentwood has no responsibility for station maintenance, land and building are owned by the County. Fire District cannot even have station transferred to it, because parcel is also occupied by the Veteran’s hall next door. District does what it needs to do to maintain the station.

More to the point, the station is very old, and was never intended for occpancy by a permanent crew. Land has been set aside on Sand Creek Road east of Brentwood Boulevard, and construction funds are being accumulated by City of Brentwood. Neither the District nor Brentwood are moving forward with the project for one simple reason; it makes no sense to do so if the District can’t staff 5 stations after November 2014.

Capital improvement funding is a minor problem for the District. Operations funding is a disaster.

“Neither the District nor Brentwood are moving forward with the project for one simple reason; it makes no sense to do so if the District can’t staff 5 stations after November 2014.”

It looks like B-wood was right. No matter how you try to dress it up (or down), the district has a money problem.

I stand by my earlier statement; ECVsbrother has a continued firefighter jealousy issue.

Thanks for the reality check. It’s too bad you can’t cash that type of check.
