ECCFPD Firefighters Limit Bethel Island Vegetation Fire to 5-Acres

At 7:59 Sunday Night, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a vegetation fire on Bethel Island Road North of Gateway Road where a fire was likely started from a PG&E power line sparking the the dry grass.

Fire crews quickly made their way to find roughly 3 acres of grass and light flashing fuels on fire. The fire was headed towards homes where the district went into home defensive mode and saved homes as the fire raced along a fence line.

Chief Henderson stated over radio this fire had potential for up to 25-acres to burn, but in the end crews limited the fire to just 5-acres.

There were no injuries or homes damaged in the fire as crews were on scene for 4-hours and 33-minutes.
