EastCountyToday Celebrates Four Years Since Website Launch

by ECT

Today, EastCountyToday.net turns four.

I want to first start off by thanking each of you for visiting us on the web, utilizing our social media platforms and your participation. After all, without our audience and the participation we have nothing–you are our oxygen.

Equally important as the attention you are giving us are the invaluable tips that you provide us when something is going on. This allows us to immediately post it to our audience. For everyone that has provided us with a tip, a photograph or a story idea, thank you!!!!!!!!

EastCountyToday started off as a concept where we could provide information in real time—hence the “Today” part of our name. The site was created because of the belief residents of East County deserved their news quickly and to know what all the sirens were for. The goal was to limit rumors and remove the guess work by the public.

Much has changed since we have launched in July 2012. The biggest change is no more police scanners thanks to a decision by Antioch Police who encrypted their channels. While people have strong beliefs on both sides of this issue. Neither is right nor wrong. It simply is what it is.

In the end, I am happy to report we are stronger than ever.

Our coverage has been utilized by local TV media which includes KTVU, KRON4, KPIX, ABC7, NBC Bay Area, Telumundo to world publications such as the Daily Mail in the United Kingdom.

In the past year, we entered a partnering agreement with Claycord and News 24-680 to share content. Between the three of us, much of Contra Costa County news is now shared on our three websites. Going forward, we are continuing to work together and find ways to provide even more relevant content to ensure you have information provided to you that you may care about.

Running this site is a 24/7 job—with the privilege of some sleep. But I would have it no other way. As we move forward, I am proud to say I get to do something I love for a living and I hope it shows in the effort. I would like to see everyone find something they love and do that everyday!

This year, I want to focus on not only continuing to provide news and happenings around our area, but also finding better ways to prop up local businesses and to help them reach their dreams and build greater successes. Equally important is I want to better highlight people doing great things in the community—it can’t always be cops and robbers or fires.

Finally, without our advertisers supporting us and believing in what we do, we could not provide a free site. Please support them in the upcoming year. With their continued support, we will continue with our goal to NEVER charge a subscription to see what is going on in our community.

Thank you again for being our oxygen in visiting EastCountyToday.net, visiting us on social media, and contributing to the news. We have the greatest audience in the world!

Thank you
