The highlight of the weekend will be in for the  Cajun & Blues FestivalSaturday and Sunday, June 14-15 with Multiple Texas and Louisiana Grammy winners are making this growing northern California music festival a perfect weekend destination for stellar American roots music, bayou cuisine and family fun.  If you do not feel like traveling, catch the movie Frozen in Downtown Oakley this evening with movie in the park.

Fitness Boot CampOneRevolution

Brownstone Gardens Bridal Boot Camp
Open to the public, this free event begins workouts on Saturdays from 8:00 to 9:00 am throughout the summer and into the fall. The series will be led by Mary and Brandon Collins, independent Beachbody Coaches. Participants need to bring a Yoga mat, towel, and water bottle.  Brownstone Gardens is located at 91 Brownstone Road in Oakley.

Isleton Cajun and Blues Festival

Isleton Cajun & Blues Festival (June 14 & 15)
The 2014 Cajun & Blues Festival set for Father’s Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 14-15. Multiple Texas and Louisiana Grammy winners are making this growing northern California music festival a perfect weekend destination for stellar American roots music, bayou cuisine and family fun.

The new Festival location on the Delta Loop–the spacious Delta Boat Storage adjacent to B&W Resort Marina at 950 Brannan Island Road just off Hwy. 12–allows for a more pastoral, grassy setting. Parking is free and fest shuttles will make regular runs.

National headliners this year are:

  • Louisiana/Texas blues Grammy nominee Marcia Ball
  •  Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys, Cajun French music from the backwaters of Southwest Louisiana
  •  Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas. black dancehall powerhouse family band sound with rubboard percussion, electric guitars and R&B influences.
  •  Others set to perform include: JD McPherson, Signs & Signifiers, Yvette Landry and Roddie Romero, Ray Bonneville and Richie Lawrence, Andre Thierry & Zydeco Magic, Terry Hanck, Wendy DeWitt, Red’s Blues with Steve Freund, Kyle Rowland Blues Band, Ray “Catfish” Copeland Band, Derek Abel and JAWS, and The Cool Drift Band featuring Raymond Coats.

The event will feature over 8,000 pounds of fresh crawdads, gumbo, jambalaya, alligator, bacon-covered hot dogs, shrimp po’ boys and more.

An active Kid Zone with large climbing rocks, bounce house and crafts and face painting is next to one of the stages. Other features are a classic car show, mini farmers market, wines from Lodi and the Delta wineries and museums depicting the great history of the Delta.

Tickets are $35 for a two day pass and 20 per day for ages 12 and over. 12 and under are free. The complete music line-up ( with links to each band and bio)

Bowling Fundraiser for Quentin “Squish” Rios
This fundraiser supports 3-year old Quentin from Oakley diagnosed with a brain tumor which has affected his vision where the tumor is located throughout his optic nerves. The tumor is inoperable because of its location within the brain and the treatment is 60 weeks of chemotherapy with a goal of preventing the tumor from further growth while hopefully shrinking it.

On June 27, the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament to help raise funds for then annual holiday parade. The event is located at the Senior Center at 130 Griffith Lane in Brentwood and the event begins with a Dinner Buffett at 6:30 to 7:30 with the poker tournament to begin at 7:30. The buy in is $65.

June 28: Brentwood PAL Fundaiser hosted by Chamon Kabob Restaurant
Chamon Kabob Restaurant will be hosting their Two Year Anniversary on Saturday June 28th from 2-5pm. They wanted to celebrate by giving back to the community by hosting a family friendly fun which includes face painting, balloon making, a police car and the highlight will be an eating contest. You are encouraged to attend and help support Brentwood PAL who will be accepting donations to help raise funds for the Brentwood Police Activities league.

The Streets of Brentwood will be hosting a 4th of July Kids Parade on July 4 beginning at 8:00 am and will end around 11:00 am. The event will feature:

  • Contest in multiple categories for the decorated strollers and wagons

Oakley Cityhood Celebration
The Annual Cityhood Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 5th at 6:00 p.m. at the Freedom High School Basin. Celebrate our 15th birthday with jumpies, games, food, music and a firework extravaganza. Bring your lawn chair and blanket to enjoy the fun. Free Antioch Saturday Summer Concerts begin Saturday, July 5th

For the 10th year, the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch is proud to present the Free Antioch Saturday Summer Concert Series in downtown Antioch. Concerts will be held in Waldie Plaza, located at 2nd & I Streets, from 6 – 8 PM every Saturday in July and August. The downtown, river view location brings back visions of old fashioned events for audiences of all ages. During the concerts the trains passing through town add to the crowd’s enjoyment Concert goers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, etc., as there is no seating in the plaza.

The concert’s major funder is the Lesher Foundation, along with support from the City of Antioch, East County Times, Republic Services, NRG, Clay Millias & Co, LLP and the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. Without these generous sponsors, the summer concert series could not be possible.

Bands scheduled for the 2014 series are all local, have played at prior summer concerts and are proven crowd favorites. The line-up is:

  • July 5th: Vocal Ease & the Boogie Men, Best Music of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s
  • July 12th: Frankie G & the Conviction, Blues & R&B Band
  • July 19th, PHD’s, contemporary R&B, Latin, Oldies Standards and Jazz
  • July 26th: Project4, Punk, Soul, Latin & R&B
  • August 2nd: Nicky Depalola, Dance and Rock & Roll from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s
  • August 9th: The Love Handles, 70’s, 80’s & 90’s Dance Rock & Roll
  • August 16th: Rodeo House, Today’s Country, August 23rd: Against Leo, Rock & Roll and Blues
  • August 30th and features Tuck & Roll, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

July 8: Discovery Bay Community Meeting About Aquatic Invasive Plants

Discovery Bay, CA –  On Tuesday, July 8th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Discovery Bay Elementary School, residents are invited to attend a community meeting regarding Aquatic Invasive plants. The meeting will be attended by Assemblymember Jim Frazier, various elected officials, and representatives from the California Division of Boating and Waterways. Biologists will be on hand to discuss the identification of new invasive aquatic species, and staff members from the department will be available to discuss proactive methods of management.  Delta residents play a vital role in apprising the Division of Boating & Waterways of aquatic weed infestations.  It is very important to report aquatic weed sightings by emailing [email protected] or calling 1-888-326-2822.
