The Holiday season is in full swing with multiple holiday themed events over the next several weeks beginning tonight with the Brentwood Tree Lighting with Antioch and Oakley hosting theirs tomorrow.

Lumpy’s Diner along with Jeremy Newberry will also be hosting a toy drive and car show all day Saturday which we highly encourage your participation.

Here is a rundown of the upcoming events:


 

Brentwood Christmas TreeDec. 5: Brentwood Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
The City of Brentwood and the Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee will be hosting their annual tree lighting Ceremony tonight beginning at 6:00 pm. The even will feature music, singing and a visit from Santa Claus, followed at 7 p.m. by the official lighting of the Christmas tree.

IMG_9657Dec. 6: The 57th Antioch Police Department Neighborhood Cleanup
The Antioch Police Department is excited to announce the 57th installment of the Neighborhood Cleanup Program. The 57th Neighborhood Cleanup event will occur on Saturday, December 6th from

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the neighborhoods surrounding Eagleridge Park at Eagleridge and Greystone Drive. Volunteers should report to the parking lot of John Muir Elementary School at 615 Greystone Drive.  Volunteers will receive instructions and the equipment necessary to accomplish the goal. The targeted area is within walking distance.


 

Lumpys Diner Dec. 6 Toy DriveDec. 6: Lumpy’s DIner & Jeremy Newberry’s Annual Toy Drive
This event begins in Pittsburg at 8:00 at Lumpy’s Diner and then at 10:30 am, participants will make their way to the Antioch Lumpy’s Diner location (Lone Tree Way) where from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm will host a toy drive and car show.  The event will occur rain or shine with awards set for 2:00 pm.  Tri tip BBQ $20 Car show entry $20 or unwrapped gift. Oakley Tree Lighting 2013Dec. 6: Oakley Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
The Annual Christmas tree lighting in Oakley will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6th at 4:00 p.m. Festive entertainment will be provided by local youth choirs and dancers. Nonprofit service organizations will be on hand with crafts, games, and activities for the children. Free cocoa and cookies will be served.

Our special guest for the evening will be Santa Claus himself! He will be visiting with children and posing for photos so parents are encouraged to bring their cameras! Stroll through “candy cane lane” in the park on the way to light the 30’ grand Christmas tree at 6:00 p.m.

Antioch Holiday DeLitesDec. 6: Celebrate Antioch Foundation Hosts Holiday Delite parade

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, December 6th. Our parade will start at 4 pm at 2nd and E streets, proceed down 2nd to I, around City Hall to 3rd street and return down 3rd to the dirt lot at 3rd and D streets.
Santa Claus will stop and stage at City Hall parking lot to greet the children. Families will be able to take pictures of their children with Santa.

The memorial tree in the center of City Hall parking lot will be lit at about 5:30 pm.
The parade should be over by 6 pm, just in time for everyone to enjoy the lighted boat parade on the river.
This year’s theme is “Celebrate Antioch, Joy of the Holidays.” For more information, click here

Join the Town of Discovery Bay for the 12th Annual Discovery Bay Parade-of-Lights & Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, December 6. Brownstone Gardens Photo DayDec. 6: Brownstone Gardens Open Garden Photo Shoot Day

Oakley – Brownstone Gardens will be hosting its final free community Open Garden Photo Shoot Day from 10am – 3pm. Please mark this on your calendars because this will be the last one for 2014. Guests are allowed to come anytime between 10am – 3pm with their photographer or self photographers.

You are encouraged to bring your own props (no food props allowed) to add to your photographs.

In 2014, they have held five prior events where visitors and photographs were free to use the facility to shoot their seasonal portraits. This event is perfect for the fall and holiday photos.

IMG_5049Dec. 7: Veterans of Oakley to Host Pearl Harbor Ceremony
The Veterans of Oakley will present a wreath to the Oakley Veterans Memorial at 10:00am along with a time of reflection and remembrance. Those wishing to participate from our community to join  in this day of remembrance of Valor and loss. The event will occur at the Oakley Veterans Memorial at the corner of Main Street and Norcross.


Posh Holiday BoutiqueDec. 7: Holiday Boutique
Come support local businesses at the Posh Holiday Boutique. We will be featuring 10 different vendors. Ranging from beautiful jewelry, makeup, tutus and hair bows for the kids as well as accessories for you,your home and your furry fur babies. Everyone is welcome its family event. Even you fur babies. Posh also has beautiful handmade angel ornaments on our tree for sale to raise money for three local nonprofits. Children’s Hospital, Kaleidoscope and My Buddy Dog Rescue.  Happy Holidays from the ladies at Posh  15% off salon product purchases on this Sunday only. We are having a raffle. Enjoy a delicious, continental breakfast with Santa. Breakfast will include pastries, fresh fruit, and juice/coffee. There will be make‐n‐take holiday crafts for the children. Space is limited so sign up early!

Kiwanis RunDec. 13: The 38th Annual Holiday Run & Walk for Health
The Kiwanis Club of the Delta from Antioch, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, East Bay Regional Park District, and the City of Antioch proudly present The Holiday Run and Walk for Health!

This race event, preparing for our 38th year, benefiting local schools, youth, and libraries and is an effective vehicle to promote and build a healthy community—starting with our youth! The 38th Annual Holiday Run and Walk for Health will once again be held at the Contra Loma Regional Park in Antioch.

The event will feature:

  • 9:00 am – 1 Mile Run/Walk
  • 9:30 am – 10K Run
  • 9:35 am – 3 Mile Run/Walk
  • 10:15 am – Kids Dashes With Santa

Dec. 13: Pittsburg Holiday Parade
This year’s Holiday event will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Festivities will include the Holiday Boutique, Playland in the Plaza, and the Holiday Parade featuring the Pirates Marching Show Band, various dignitaries and elected officials from the City of Pittsburg and our local community, and the arrival of Santa Claus. Plans are also being discussed to include a holiday tree lighting ceremony at the tree located on Fourth Street and Railroad Avenue. Holiday 2014 is expected to bring approximately 5,000 attendees into Old Town for the day.

Messiah, George Frederich Handel’s most successful and best known oratorio, was composed in the year 1741 in just 24 days. It was first performed at a concert in Dublin, Ireland, in 1742, with Handel himself conducting. An oratorio is a dramatic sacred choral work, usually for soloists, chorus and orchestra, that is performed in “concert hall” style rather than “staged.” (Approximately 2 hours)

December 14: Antioch’s 60th Annual Christmas House “Homes For The Holidays”
Home tours will begin from Noon to 4:00 pm on Sunday, December 14 with a reception from 2:00pm to 5:00 pm at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6335.
