Driver Airlifted to Hospital After Vehicle Rear Ends Tanker Truck on Vasco Road

At 3:30 pm Wednesday, the driver of a mid-sized convertible sedan was airlifted to a local hospital after rear ending a tanker truck according to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.

The incident occurred on Vasco Road about two miles south of Camino Diablo where Engine 59 arrived on scene and located the crash site.

The roadway was shut down for about an hour as crews worked and landed a medical helicopter.

According to the CHP website, the convertible sedan caught fire caught fire, however, the driver of the tanker quickly extinguished the fire prior to fire crews arriving on scene.

The crash is still under investigation by CHP according to Battalion Chief Jeff Burris.

No further information was released.
