Diane Burgis Earns Endorsement of Contra Costa’s Bravest

by ECT

Contra Costa Firefighters, Deputy Sheriffs, District Attorney Mark Peterson, Sheriff-Coroner David Livingston and Antioch Police Officers Join Team Burgis

OAKLEY, CALIF. — Today, East Bay Regional Park District Director Diane Burgis, candidate for Contra Costa County Supervisor in District Three, earned the enthusiastic endorsement of the Contra Costa County Deputy Sheriffs Association, Antioch Police Officers Association, Sheriff-Coroner David Livingston and District Attorney Mark Peterson, as well as the endorsement recommendation of the Executive Board of the United Professional Firefighters of Contra Costa County, Local 1230.

“We need tough, principled leadership to tackle the long-standing problem of inadequate fire protection coverage in the county,” said Vince Wells, President of the United Professional Firefighters of Contra Costa County, Local 1230. “Diane Burgis is the only candidate for District Three we can trust to get the job done. She’s not just another politician – she has the proven competence and know-how necessary to improve fire protection services for every East County resident.”

Fire and emergency resources in East County are inadequate, leading to longer response times and lower quality fire and emergency services. Multiple district firehouses have closed due to a lack of proper funding.

“Diane Burgis is uniquely qualified to tackle the challenges our county faces,” said Shawn Welch, President of the Contra Costa County Deputy Sheriffs Association. “Under her watch, Oakley was recognized as one of the safest cities in the state. As a city councilmember, she supported police so that they could do their jobs fighting crime. As a park director, she partnered with law enforcement to make sure every tax dollar was spent wisely.  I and my fellow deputies are proud to stand with her this November.”

The Contra Costa Deputy Sheriffs Association is dedicated to the security and well-being of Contra Costa’s citizens and the protection of its 830+ employees. The United Professional Firefighters of Contra Costa County, Local 1230 includes over 450 firefighters from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, East Contra Costa County Fire District and various city fire departments. The Antioch Police Officers Association represents 120 police officers serving in the Antioch Police Department.

“Diane Burgis asks the right questions, listens closely to her constituents and then fights on their behalf,” said David Livingston, Contra Costa County Sheriff-Coroner. “I know I can count on her. She’s not one to pick political expediency over doing the right thing. She’s mastered the issues and demonstrated true skill as a leader, building coalitions and solving problems while putting a high priority on public safety.”

Diane Burgis currently serves as an East Bay Regional Parks District director and is the executive director of the Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed. Previously, she served as an Oakley city councilmember and spent over ten years as a small business owner. She highlights four priorities for her candidacy: improving public safety, attracting economic development, ensuring fiscal accountability and preserving the delta for future generations.

“Diane will work hard to develop the resources our police, firefighters and prosecutors need to keep us safe,” said Contra Costa County District Attorney Mark Peterson. “As a small business owner, nonprofit manager and public official, she has proven that she can balance a budget and defend taxpayers. I endorse her with no reservations – our county needs a real leader on the board.”

Diane Burgis is also endorsed by County Supervisor Mary Piepho, Assemblymember Joan Buchanan and a broad coalition of elected officials and leaders from every city and community in the district.

“I am honored by this extraordinary vote of confidence from our county’s bravest public servants,” said Diane Burgis, Candidate for Contra Costa County Supervisor in District Three. “I pledge to work collaboratively with our firefighters, sheriffs and every district resident to find effective solutions as we work together to improve public safety for all.”

Very Impressive! It looks to me like Burgis is well on her way to being our next County Supervisor.

Good luck Diane-keep up the great work and we look forward to your leadership.

These comments say A LOT about Ms. Burgis when comparing her to her competition.

It’s obvious that the people that actually perform our “public safety” from the fire department to law enforcement (both management to staff) ALL PICKED DIANE BURGIS. As a east county homeowner, resident and voter, this is very important to me.

Dianne Burgis has demonstrated superior leadership and amazing listening skills. She has earned the many endorsements and no doubt will receive many more.

On the flip, Barr has the endorsement of his city’s cops. He is on the city council so it is expected.

This is great news for Diane Burgis, terrible news for Steve Barr.

His own firefighter union that he represents on the Fire Board can see threw him and that he has no solutions in a leadership role except asking for more taxes. Hopefully more people will see threw him.

There aren’t enough campaign signs for Steve Barr to hoodwink the voters this time around. His 15 minutes of accidental fame are over. He got a uniformed voter pass in the primary but now that people are actually paying attention he can’t buy a vote or a credible endorsement. Steve might be a nice guy with a spray on tan but a skillful leader he isn’t.

He should have seen this coming. Now that the election is real, it’s going to be easily won by Diane Burgess.

East county is much bigger than selfish little Brentwood. Some people just need to learn the hard way I figure……..

The same old politics that pay to play. Sorry but we really need someone for the public and not for the public employees. Only 49% of voters are dumb. the other 51% can see through falsehoods and lies. I’ll take Barr over Burgis any day.

Hey Joe, if you were trying to help your friend Steve it backfired on you both. You managed to hurt more than help with the falsehood and lies.

You must be a Brentwood tea drinker because let’s face the truth. Steve is not at all for the public! Just look at the company that he keeps and the lack of success in his political resume.

If a bump on a log is your style, Steve is your man, any day and all day.

@Joe C,

Your comment makes no sense whatsoever. You must fall within the 49 percent that you mentioned.

“The same old politics that pay to play”. What does that mean in regards to Diane Burgis getting the top cop/elected Sheriff and the top public defender/ elected District Attorney? Either might be really interested in your comment “PAY to play”. Are you possibly suggesting financial corruption by one or either, or is it YOU that is projecting “FALSEHOOD AND LIES”? And honest answer would be nice and please, stick to the facts.

Since you are looking for a candidate that is for the public, wouldn’t it make sense that a candidate (Diane Burgis) who is endorsed by both elected Management and public safety Labor is better qualified, rather than Barr who is struggling…and only has support from the Brentwood PD Union who serves under him from his seat on the city council. Let’s see “Joe” if you were smart….you wouldn’t have pointed out that 4 endorsements from the TOP public safety entities of all of Contra Costa who have NO political ties to either candidate is much more important.

So tell us Joe, have you ever met Barr or Burgis? I’ve met both and there is no comparison between the two. Diane Burgis is a far superior candidate for Contra Costa and will be a much better representative than Barr could ever be. Why don’t you contact Barr and ask him how he voted to hand out raises to the Mayor and city council? Ask him how he has voted on (over) development of Brentwood? Ask him how he voted on project labor agreements? Ask him how his prior political run turned out?

Expect Diane Burgis to beat Barr by double digits. That’s what the primary election results showed and the voters will mandate in November.
