DeSaulnier Statement on President Trump’s Response to Violence in Charlottesville

by ECT

Walnut Creek, CA – Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) issued the following statement after President Trump reiterated his belief that “both sides” were to blame for the violence in Charlottesville.

“By once again attempting to placate evil the President surrendered what little moral authority he had left. It was not long ago that millions of Americans put their lives on the line to fight fascism and white supremacy. Failing to condemn those who espouse the same worldviews that Americans died fighting against is sacrilege, and undermines the essence of America.”

I’m not a Trump supporter (moderate Republican) but both sides are to blame. Whether it’s the KKK, Black Lives Matter, Black Panthers or any other extremist group ALL extremists are to blame when it comes to racial issues. Quit making everything a racial issue, and treat others like members of the human race.

Agree with you on that one could not have said it better myself

Mark, find something more useful to do with your time. You condemn our President for both what he says and then for what he doesn’t say, you can’t have it both ways. Why don’t you get behind the 60 million Americans who voted for this President and do something positive for the American people.

Mark DeSaulnier, you idiot.

My opinion Aug 15, 2017 - 5:57 pm

Desaulnier is out of touch with the average American. Both extreme sides wanted this to happen. It has nothing to do with Trump. If you think so, you are an idiot. History is important to society and human growth not an excuse to place blame.

Just like Obama to the end of his presidency never called islamic extremest attacks “terrorism” and continued to call them isolated incidents….. I also noticed that the “peaceful” anti-protesters showed up with helmets and bats to protest the white supremacists! So both groups are the decay of society and are to blame. Like a good President should, he waited to find out what actually happend before issuing a statement, unlike the off the cuff race baiting of “if I had a son…..” we dealt with for 8 long agonizing years.

Extremists on both sides set up these situations because they know that the media will be there in full force and give them the attention they want. I heard that there were more media people at the Charlottesville melee than the actual demonstrators. No one should give any of these people attention! The media is just as much to blame as they are.

As for DeSaulnier, he did not represent my views when I lived in Pittsburg nor does my current congressman now that I live in Antioch. Both senators don’t represent my views either.

The Democrats’ playbook is take the criticism made during the Obama Presidency that they could not freely express and speak out or act out and turn their emotions on Trump who finds himself responding to the same old mess. Trump blames both sides but Obama took sides. Trump calls what most of of see as hate groups by their accepted names and Obama refused to “label” them by their accepted names

Mr. DeSaulnier:

Contrary to what you may believe Mr. DeSaulnier, for the past eight years America was victimized by the most racist POTUS in our generation.

No one threw gas on the flames ? of racism, and reverse racism, more than Barack Obama and neither yourself, the liberal media, or your fellow progressive colleagues challenged him out of fear of being labeled a racist yourselves. On each and every situation that arose regarding race during his presidency Obama commented on the situation without knowing ALL of the facts and each time he was completely wrong! Obama’s hatred of white police officers, as a example, was on display for eight years and you and your Democratic cronies said nothing. When he invited the hate group Black Lives Matter to the White House you said nothing. So why are you speaking up now?

President Trump was absolutely right when he said both sides created the tragedy this weekend. Like it or not, the white nationalist have a constitutional right to free speech and if Antifa had not come dressed and armed for battle and would have let the Nationalists have their say and leave, there is a very good chance violence could have been avoided and Heather Heyer may still be alive and well.

I don’t have a problem with the monuments because they represent a part of our nations history although it is a painful one. Tearing them down or removing them from public view doesn’t change the past. I believe they should remain in place and be used as a tool to teach and show our children the progress we have made of overcoming the horrors of our Nations history.

Unfortunately, we will never erase racism from our country. It lives and thrives because some individuals of all races refuse to take the opportunity to really get to know each other. When we do, we will find that we have far more in common that unites us than separates us.

GG, your comment is so spot on. All people in our county have a right to protest and/or free speech. This does not mean anyone has to listen or support it. The group with out the permit travelled from out of the area and state. This tells me the intent to riot and be violent was premeditated. Certain political groups are sabatoshing this country purposely. Those groups are the real problem. Americans need to be American and not tread on others for their opinions. This is why our country is the best in the world. A little better too when Desaulnier goes.

Republicans hate participation trophies, but want to keep statues of treasonous anti-Americans who lost the war? Makes perfect sense Gary. Let’s erect a statue of bin Laden im ground zero next…

GG & American both sound like grade-A status-quo stroking replicants. No unique independent thought, just regurgitated think-tank jargon.

A friend of mine once told me “we all have a little bit of racism in us.” I hope it’s not true, but I understand why she might think that way. Wow.

Dmitri Aug 16, 2017 - 5:23 pm

Well yes Melanie, a huge part of human evolution is pattern seeking. And since race/color is the first thing we see in other humans we attach value to those patterns from past experiences. That’s why all racists lack intellect because they only see humanity as skin deep and not the complexity of who we really are underneath.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Eleanor Roosevelt – 1937.

My favorite quote…

Dmitri Aug 17, 2017 - 10:27 pm

Funny how at the same time in 1937 Jim Crow laws, segregation, and the Marihuana Tax Act was underway. I’m certain no one oppressed ever gave consent. And Eleanor Roosevelt was born into immense wealth Melanie she had no idea of the concept of inferiority. It’s easy to pull yourself from the bootstraps when those boots are on the necks of the poor and minorities…

Melanie Aug 18, 2017 - 10:05 am

Dimitri – Eleanor Roosevelt may have been a rich, white woman – but she’s a WOMAN. I wasn’t around back then, but if you don’t think sexism was a problem back then – you’re not thinking clearly. I’ve never faced sexism (personally) but it’s still here. I concentrate on all the ADVANTAGES women have. At one time women were considered “property” but I’m assuming you’re a man.

With the exception of rich, white powerful men – who are tall and good looking – and have never had any physical or mental problems – we’ve all faced a “little something.”

Melanie Aug 18, 2017 - 10:20 am

Ever heard of sexism? Eleanor Roosevelt was a woman.

Dmitri Aug 19, 2017 - 7:44 pm

Keep stretching it Melanie and you might pull something. I understand the woman’s plight, but there’s a difference from being seen as subordinate to men and being subhuman like every other ethnicity that wasn’t white.
