Delta Veterans Group Receives $2,500 Donation from Wells Fargo for Stand Down

by ECT

The Delta Veterans Group is $2,500 closer to reaching their goal of $85,000 for a Veterans Stand Down event scheduled in September thanks to a donation from the Wells Fargo Foundation.

Last night, during the groups meeting, representatives from Wells Fargo were on hand to present a check and thank the group for their efforts in the community.

According to JR Wilson, Wells Fargo was the group’s first corporate sponsor for the Stand Down which will be held at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds September 11-14, 2015. The event is focused on veterans services and while they need financial donations, they are also accepting donation of services and items such as sleeping bags, blankets and other things that could benefit homeless veterans.

Wilson highlighted that it was the Antioch Rotary who assisted in setting up a meeting in Oakland with Wells Fargo. During that meeting, it was suggested they apply for a grant and they were eventually awarded the $2,500.

“It was our community involvement that got their attention. If we were not doing anything in our community, they would not have given us the time of day,” said Wilson. “In the last year, we have had career job fairs for veterans, veteran information seminars, veterans’ health fairs, and veteran housing triage event. So we try and help veterans in many different ways.”

According to Wilson, Delta Veterans Group has four pillars to success which include housing, education, health, employment—these four pillars are the key to veteran success. He notes that while serving in the military, those are all provided. When you are discharged, you lose all of it and forced to be on your own.

Currently, the Delta Veterans Group have nearly $10,000 for the event after Strategic Threat Management and Delta Tactical Training Group donated $2,500 through funds raised at their annual Christmas Party. More donations are expected to be received in the coming months.

For those looking to get involved, the next meeting on the Stand Down is scheduled for February 19, 2014 at the Antioch American legion (6th Street) beginning at 7:00 pm. The group meets every 3rd Thursday. For more information, visit www.DeltaVeteransGroup.org
