by ECT

At 10:39 pm, emergency crews responded to a single car accident on Deer Valley Road near Blue Rock. They arrived on scene to a vehicle that was destroyed with a victim trapped inside while forced to work around a gas hazard.

Crews worked quickly; however, there was gas all over the road that left a heavy odor that could be smelled from a few hundred yards away which was a significant hazard if it caught fire. Crews first had to prep the scene before tools could be used to extradite the  patient. They also had hoses ready to go should the gas catch fire.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time, however, the vehicle hit the center median causing the car to hit a tree which destroyed the vehicle. The female patient, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported via medical helicopter with trauma to the head, body, along with cuts and scratches.

Antioch PD did a great job with traffic control and keeping people back due to the gas danger and its accidents like this that highlight just how public safety official put themselves in danger to rescue folks at all times of hours and with low viability.

The cause of the accident is under investigation and we have no update on the medical status of the victim.
