Decoy Operations: Oakley Liquor Store Loses Alcohol License

by ECT

Contra Costa County Sheriff

During the month of April, the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff conducted operations at establishments that sell alcohol which resulted in an Oakley establishment losing its liquor license for a period of 45-days.

The liquor store is located on the 3300 block of Main Street in downtown Oakley.

According to a Press Release yesterday, the County Office of the Sheriff conducted operations in Pacheco, El Sobrante, and Oakley.

During the operations several establishments were visited. Ten adults were arrested. All were cite-released except for one who was booked into county jail for being in possession of methamphetamine.

Detectives conducted two types of operations: Minor Decoy Program where the minor decoy enters a bar or restaurant and attempts to buy alcohol and Shoulder Tap where the minor decoy stands outside of a liquor store or market and asks adults to buy them alcohol. The minors are supervised by law enforcement.

Any person seen furnishing alcohol to the minor decoy is arrested (cited or booked) for furnishing alcohol to a minor. This is a violation of Section 25658(a) of the Business and Professions Code. Penalties can include fines of up to $1,000, community service and possible revocation of the alcohol license.

These ongoing operations are part of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Minor Decoy/Shoulder Tap Grant Project, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Given Oakley is such a small city, it shuoldn’t be to hard to figure out which business does not have a license at this time. Nice job to the sheriffs office.

I think its the same store where we bought beer and liquor when I was in high school, many many years ago. Amazing on how things don’t change.

Great news for Oakley. Should be forced to put a big giant bright sign out front for 45-days as an example out of them for selling to minors.
