Covered California Director Issues Statement on House Passage of the American Health Care Act

by ECT

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Covered California Executive Director Peter V. Lee released the following statement on the passing of the American Health Care Act by the U.S. House of Representatives:

“Today the House of Representatives took a significant step toward making what could be monumental changes to the U.S. health care system and the lives of millions of Americans. The passage by the House of the American Health Care Act is the first step in a long and ongoing process. The bill will now move to the Senate, which will revise, amend and then take its own action on this proposal. Then, the House and Senate must seek to reach an agreement on their different approaches.

Covered California has been part of putting in place changes that have brought health care within reach of millions of Californians. We have analyzed the American Health Care Act, and as currently structured, it would greatly increase the ranks of the uninsured and increase costs for millions more. We will continue our work to both assess the potential impacts of new policies and focus on assuring that we administer the law that exists today.

The debate over the past six months has made crystal clear that changes in health care do not happen overnight. Consumers who have coverage today are protected and Covered California will keep our members informed of anything that may affect them. We will continue to engage to ensure that our experience in delivering high-quality, affordable health care informs the ongoing debate.”

About Covered California
Covered California is the state’s health insurance marketplace, where Californians can find affordable, high-quality insurance from top insurance companies. Covered California is the only place where individuals who qualify can get financial assistance on a sliding scale to reduce premium costs. Consumers can then compare health insurance plans and choose the plan that works best for their health needs and budget. Depending on their income, some consumers may qualify for the low-cost or no-cost Medi-Cal program.

Covered California is an independent part of the state government whose job is to make the health insurance marketplace work for California’s consumers. It is overseen by a five-member board appointed by the governor and the legislature. For more information about Covered California, please visit www.CoveredCA.com

Oh shut up and pay for your own health insurance. Plain and simple.

Yup kids born with MS, diabetes, lupus, cancer, autism, etc. gotta learn the American way to pull yourself up from the bootstraps and be selfish like the rest of us. You fool

Covered under the parents’ insurance until 26, so what ‘kids’ are you referring to that go without treatment?

Dmitri May 6, 2017 - 8:59 am

What if the parents have illnesses too? What if they’re disabled? What about foster kids? Or if their parents don’t make enough money or don’t have the best insurance.

It’s called Medi-cal, Dmitiri. Didnt you read the article? It’s spelled out in plain English. Medical or Medicaid has been around for decades.

You have no idea how medical insurance works do you?

What if you’re between the ages of 18 to 26 and your parents are dead? Do you go and latch on to some relative and hope they will include you?

Yeah if they’re your legal guardian.

Seriously are people this stupid that they can’t figure it out for themselves? Seems like you have to be spoon fed and have someone hold your hand.

Plain and simple, indeed. So, if you don’t have the money to pay, just roll over and die? And do be quiet, don’t make any noises, don’t bother anyone else when doing that?

Yeah, we all love free stuff.

Dude it’s health care. California’s economy is larger than most South American countries and African countries. There’s plenty of money to go around. Instead of blaming your fellow man, blame the real enemy holding the resources at the top. Wake up

Instead of blaming yourself for not finishing high school or trying harder to get a better job, blame it on others and say there’s plenty of money for me to get a free ride.

Just saying.

Dude instead of blaming everyone why you don’t have healthcare because you didn’t finish high school and can’t get a better job, try making something of yourself.

Yup, we all love free stuff. Plenty of money to go around because I’m lazy and want others to pay my way. Sheesh.

The only course forward is to change the American mind. We must think healthcare careers as the highest form of service to us all. The medical researchers as the most noble in finding cures or mitigate the suffering. Until we can take wealth as pride and turn the medical field into the most noble service, we will continue down this path to ruin. I challenge you readers to show your doctors and medical researchers they are deserving of our praise. Thank them now and often.

Well yea if it wasn’t ran by money and instead by morals we would have cures to many more diseases. But instead we get ripped off by the pink ribbon facade and the dumb Americans are satisfied.

And if the moon was made of cheese, everyone can have cheeseburgers with free cheese.

Anything promulgated by Obama I simply ignore, including his ObamaCare (or ObamaDoesn’tCare) ….. and I’m not paying any fines, either. If I need to see a doctor for a problem, I pay him via credit card or cash.
