by ECT

Last Tuesday, County Supervisor Diane Burgis was officially sworn into office, representing District Three on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors.

The district represents Antioch, Oakley, Brentwood and the unincorporated communities of Bethel Island, Blackhawk, Byron, Camino Tassajara, Diablo, Discovery Bay and Knightsen.

“It’s truly an honor to have earned the trust and confidence of the voters of District Three,” said Supervisor Diane Burgis. “I’m excited to follow in the footsteps of East County’s loyal advocate, Supervisor Mary Nejedly Piepho, and to work hard for my constituents defending the Delta, improving public safety and strengthening our local economy.”

Following a series of remarks and celebrations, Diane took the oath of office alongside re-elected Supervisor Federal Glover, the incoming Chair of the Board, and Supervisor Candace Andersen. Supervisor Karen Mitchoff was also sworn in as Vice Chair.

During Tuesday’s board meeting, the board also appointed committee and commission members. Supervisor Burgis was appointed to the following posts:

Chair:

  • Transportation, Water and Infrastructure Committee

Vice Chair:

  • Airport Committee
  • East County Transportation Planning (TRANSPLAN)
  • Internal Operations Committee
  • Legislation Committee
  • Open Space/Parks & East Bay Regional Parks District Liaison Committee
  • State Route 4 Bypass Authority

Commissioner:

  • Delta Protection Commission

  • Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO)
  • Mental Health Commission
  • Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy Board

In her first term, Burgis has stated her priorities include improving transportation by improving infrastructure and expansion, protecting the delta while preserving open space, and working to preserve and revitalize the county’s agricultural core. She also hopes to improve public safety by working to ensure faster response times for sheriff deputies and fire services. Finally, she hopes to work towards ensuring efficient and effective delivery of county services.

Prior to her election as a County Supervisor, Burgis served Director for the East Bay Regional Park District for Ward 7, an Oakley city councilmember. She was also appointed to the Delta Protection Commission and Association of Bay Area Governments Regional Planning Committee Member. Professionally, she was the executive director of Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed and a former small business owner.

It’s exciting we have someone who will represent us on the Board of Supervisors in Antioch instead of sell us out like Federal Glover. Send all Sheriff Deputies to Antioch to clean it up.

Jim, you forgot Piepho who did absolutely nothing for Antioch. Nothing!

You guys are indeed clueless. You would think commenters would have a little knowledge before hitting the keyboard. Guess not.

Simmons you should probably ask someone to write your comments on here for you. You’re the guy who goes to Taco Bell and asks for a burger.

Antioch is a city…..you know it has a city council right? Don’t expect Glover or Burgis to clean up the mess there. At least Piepho knew her responsibilities and did the well. Apparently you must be assuming county supervisors are supposed to babysit. They have enough on their plates without taking on city problems.

She looks like a judge in the pic. Good luck to her. I hope she serves east county residents before herself like Piepho.

Diane Burgis is going to make a great Supervisor. Hopefully she will continue Delta advocacy and follow in Mary Piepho’s footsteps.
