Contra Costa Firefighters Battle 3-Alarm Fire in Concord, Health Advisory Issued

At 12:55 am Tuesday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire at a building still under construction in the 1200 block of Galindo Street at Clayton Road in the City of Concord.

The fire quickly spread and was upgraded to a 3-alarm response. Due to the large size of the fire and how hot it is, it may take investigators 24-hours to investigate.

Fire officials say the morning commute will be impacted. Currently, Galindo St, Willow Pass Rd, Concord Blvd and Clayton Rd all closed.

Just after 6:00 am, Contra Costa Public Health Services issued a health advisory in the area.

Due to a structure fire near downtown Concord, people with respiratory sensitivities may be affected. Most people will not be affected. Eye, skin, nose or throat irritation may be possible for some people in the affected area. If people experience any irritation, advise them to go inside and rinse any irritated area of their body with water. Handle this as advisory information only.

At 1:30 am, an emergency alert was issued by the Concord Police Department stating due to a structure fire at 1825 Galindo St an immediate evacuation has been ordered for the Renaissance Apartments

Leave now by exiting the building safely and walk to the Todos Santos Plaza. Take only those essential items you have ready and can carry with you. Pets must be in a carrier or on a leash. Lock your windows and doors as you leave. Stay off the phone unless you need to report a life-threatening emergency at your location. However, if you are physically unable to leave your home unassisted, call 9 1 1 for help.

Update

Per CONFIRE, the building was 260,000 square feet, $55 million loss. Between 80-100 firefighters were dispatched to the incident.

Glad no one hurt. Nice of Vinnie’s to stay open all night and allow people to shelter there. It will be interesting to see what develops.

With so many buildings that size under construction having been set on fire, you’d think the builder would deploy several security guards to stay on the property after dark.
