Contra Costa County Sheriff: Suspected DUI Drivers Collide with Patrol Vehicles

by ECT

In a two-week period this month, suspected DUI drivers twice collided with Office of the Sheriff patrol cars.

In the first incident, Deputy Sheriffs were on a traffic stop on Highway 4 near Byron Highway. The vehicles were on the right shoulder and off the roadway with the overhead emergency lights on. All occupants were out of the vehicles and standing on the shoulder when a driver sideswiped a patrol and then collided into the back of another patrol car pushing it into the stopped vehicle. The suspect was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The California Highway Patrol later arrested the driver for DUI.

Here are some tips to help keep the holidays safe and happy:

  • If you drink, do not drive.
  • Plan ahead; designate a sober driver before the drinking/partying begins.
  • If you have been drinking and need a ride, call a taxi, a sober friend or family member or use public transportation.
  • Remember, it is never safe to drink and drive: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
