Contra Costa County Animal Services Offer 4th of July Safety Tips for Pets

The Contra Costa County Animal Services offered the following safety tips for your animals this 4th of July.

  1. Never use fireworks around your pets!
  2. Keep your dogs inside during the fireworks, preferably with human companionship. Loud crowded firework displays are no fun for pets.
  3. Make sure your dogs gets plenty of exercise earlier in the day.
  4. Provide a safe place inside for your dogs to retreat to if they get scared.
  5. Make sure all of your windows and curtains are closed.
  6. Make sure all of your pets are wearing their ID tags with a property fitting collar. Dogs are known to escape or hide on the 4th of July.
  7. Leave your dog something fund to do, like a Kong or bone to chew on.
  8. Leave the TV or radio on while you’re gone. This will help tune out the loud sounds of the fireworks.
