Contra Costa County Animal Services Honors Veterans With Free Veteran Pet Adoption Week

by ECT

Martinez CA, The Contra Costa County Animal Services Department will honor veterans by holding a Free Veteran Pet Adoption Week beginning Friday, Nov. 7, and going through Saturday, Nov. 15.

Any veteran can adopt a dog or cat, or small pet animal from the shelter for reduced fees during this time. All shelter animals are eligible for this program.

Veterans need to bring in proof of military service, either a military ID or DD 214 or a membership card from a veterans organization. All normal adoption procedures will still apply but there will be no adoption fee or spay/neuter fee charged to veterans.

In addition, Contra Costa Animal Services will also be offering no fee adoptions to anyone taking a “veteran” dog or cat, animals which are older or have been at the shelter a long time. Kennels of those animals will be specially marked for the event.

All normal adoption procedures will still apply, but there will be no charge for these selected dogs and cats. All pets will be altered, have a current rabies shot and have a microchip and license.

“We invite all veterans to please stop by the facility and offer a lifetime home for one of these animals!”

Adoption hours for this once a year event are 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7 through 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15; The shelter is open until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and is closed Sunday, Monday, and Veterans Day.
