Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Stockton) announced the start of his annual “Holiday Cards for Our Troops” program.  Last year, the office collected more than 7,000 cards from the community with personal messages of gratitude to our men and women in uniform.  Congressman McNerney again invites people to submit cards at either of his offices to be distributed to troops at home and overseas.

“I have heard how much it means to our troops when they receive notes and cards from home.  Let’s take this time of year to make a difference for the men and women who fight so bravely to protect us and our country,” said Rep. McNerney.

The cards will be sent to troops stationed overseas in packages organized by Contra Costa Blue Star Moms, Lodi Support Our Troops, A Million Thanks, Summerset Veterans, and The Red Cross.  Cards will also be delivered to veterans’ facilities in the United States.

To participate in the program, make or purchase a holiday card and write a message of thanks inside to a service member, and deliver the card to Rep. McNerney’s office in Stockton or Antioch by Friday, Nov. 22, 2013.  Cards should remain unaddressed and envelopes unsealed.

Card Guidelines:

  • Make sure to sign your card
  • Use salutations such as “Dear Service Member.”  Cards addressed to specific individuals cannot be delivered through this program
  • Do not include inserts such as photographs, confetti or glitter
  • Cards should not bear an address and should remain unsealed
