Stockton, Calif. – Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Stockton) announced on February 27 he will seek re-election to Congress in 2014. Last week, Rep. McNerney filed his paperwork and was officially sworn-in as a candidate.
“I’m proud to represent the people of the San Joaquin Valley,” said Congressman McNerney. “No one works harder than the folks in my district, and I will continue to fight for them in Washington.”
Congressman McNerney and his wife Mary and have lived in Northern California for over 20 years and raised their three children here. Their son Michael joined the military after 9/11, and his service inspired Jerry to run for public office.
As a small business owner, Rep. McNerney understands what it’s like to make ends meet during tough economic times. That’s why he’s committed to creating more family-wage jobs and helping the economy get back on track. While in office he has written bills to close tax loopholes for companies that ship American jobs overseas and to make it easier for small businesses to create jobs.
Congressman McNerney has been a leader on veterans issues since first being elected to Congress in 2006. His efforts led to the Veterans Administration’s decision to build a new medical facility in French Camp. He was also the author of a law that improves care for service members returning home with traumatic brain injuries.
He’s committed to keeping our neighborhoods safe, including securing federal funding for local police departments to put more officers on the street. He has also championed programs that help keep young people on the right track by providing them with after-school jobs and educational opportunities.
“I’m fighting to keep our economy growing, our community safe, and our Delta healthy and viable,” said Rep. McNerney. “I’ll protect our veterans, make sure we provide a quality education for our children, and safeguard Medicare and Social Security. I’ll keep standing up for what’s right for our region and for you.”

That is great that the Congressman is proud to represent the people of San Joaquin Valley, but I want someone who is proud to represent East Contra Costa County. Nowhere does he mention this side of the hill. What a shame he is pandering to just one side of his district.
