Updated: Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Driving Under the Influence After Causing Five Vehicle Crash

by ECT

A vehicle crash caused a SIGALERT at Highway 4 and Port Chicago in the City of Concord Saturday morning.

The crash occurred at 10:53 am and shut down westbound Highway 4 to 242 with up to four-vehicles involved with major damage. It was reported by CHP that a car flew off southbound 242 and landed on its roof under Highway 4.

By 12:42 pm, all lanes were open.

Update per CHP:

DUI doesn’t just mean Booze” is more than just a Slogan

With the legalization of Marijuana, haven’t we all seen the advertisement campaigns for “DUI doesn’t just mean Booze?!” Well apparently this DUI driver hasn’t.

Today at about 10:52am, Contra Costa CHP received multiple calls of witness accounts of a White Ford Explorer traveling at estimated speeds over 100MPH on northbound I-680 and northbound SR-242. Those calls were then followed by calls of a rollover traffic collision at SR-242 and SR-4 involving that same reported White Ford Explorer over 100MPH. Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, it was determined that the White Ford Explorer veered across the roadway of SR-242 northbound, into the center median where it over turned and then rolled into the oncoming traffic of SR-242 southbound, just next to SR-4 westbound, colliding head on with several vehicles. Multiple people were transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek and Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek for their injuries, and the female driver of the White Ford Explorer was arrested for suspicion of FELONY DUI, causing injuries to others and under the influence of Marijuana and other drugs.

In the initial investigation, it appears that the solo female driver (35yrs old from Martinez) of the Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on SR-242 from northbound I-680 at speeds, according to multiple witnesses, over 100MPH. Just before SR-242 begins to merge with SR-4 eastbound, due to excessive high speed and impairment, the female driver veered the Ford Explorer across the roadway to the left, into the center median, began overturning down the center median and then rolled into oncoming southbound traffic of SR-242. Then her Explorer collided head on with multiple vehicles (5 vehicle collision in total). The female driver of the Ford Explorer was arrested for suspicion of FELONY DUI causing injuries to others and under the influence of Marijuana and other drugs, then transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek to treat her minor injuries.

Three other people from the other vehicles were also transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek for major injuries but non-life threatening. And one other party was transported to Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek for minor injuries. This area of the freeway was shut down for approximately 1 hr and 20 minutes for the investigation.

This collision is still under investigation and if anyone witnessed it or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, and contact Officer Mendoza. (925) 646-4980. Thank you.

Get ready for a lot more of these. 43% of drivers now on the road are high and the figure is rising.

This isn’t something we need to “watch out for now”, just because of the new law… People just don’t get it do they??? Just because of the “new law” about making pot “legal”, it doesn’t mean that it’s OK to have it in your car, or on your person if you get pulled over or something.. it just means NOW THEY HAVE A LEGAL EXCUSE FOR DOING SOMETHING DANGEROUS, OR STUPID… To me it’s like when you go to the DMV, and they ask, “Are you going to be a doner?” And they put that little pink dot on your ID/License… Well, Now you can have a cute little “leaf” in that spot ..

Two marijuana-related crashes in less than 10 days? Wow! More of this to come! Colorado’s marijuana-smoking-related traffic “mishaps” rose by 70% after recreational marijuana was made legal.

Just a thought wonder how many DUIs are alcohol-related. The sad thing about alcohol is there’s no beneficial properties that come from alcohol. Being a city bus driver I don’t see too many people laying on the bench high on weed, bumming money on the corner for a drink. What I do see drunk, angry, violent people constantly buying alcohol and being a hindrance to the public. This of course is when they use alcohol in excess.

What, up until 8 or 9 days ago, there weren’t ANY kind of accidents or crime that occurred where the person was “under- the- influence?? Damn…. People in your state just COULDNT WAIT for January 1st!!!

Always do defensive driving. They are either drunk , texting, smoking dope, eating, doing makeup, shaving. It’s terrible out there, nobody gives a shit. Be careful.

Chris Jan 6, 2018 - 8:57 pm

Don’t just throw that out there…. there are responsible people who smoke weed… and function quite “normally” while doing so…. blame the accident on the real cause, that a inexperienced driver was irresponsibly driving at close to 100 miles per hour… all you loons blaming marijuana have probably never smoked weed and have no knowledge about how its affects the brain. … its not what you think….trust me… it ain’t the weeds fault

I agree. I think they are trying to find any reasons to make Mary Jane look like it inebriates a person to make stupid decisions.
Nine times out of 10 the person making those stupid decisions would have made them regardless. I guarantee if they checked their past she wasn’t running because, she was on drugs she was running because, she was wanted for warrants.

LOL wow! Jan 7, 2018 - 6:56 am

Please tell us all that youre kidding, that has to be the stupidest thing i have ever read on here, just wow!!!

I guess we just don’t shop at the right store.. the one I go to doesn’t sell “ALCOHOL WITH POT” MIXERS…. I gotta find a new store… Damn…lol. I just don’t understand…..I’ve NEVER EVER heard of ANYBODY “STARTING AND CONTINUE” TO “LEAD POLICE ON A HIGH SPEED CHASE”, OR “DRIVE AT SPEEDS OF “OVER 100 MILES PER HOUR”, WHEN THEY ARE “UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF MARIJUANA”… I’m sorry but if you are “STONED”, YOU CANT DO “ANYTHING” FAST….So they are going to have to blame the actual PERSON for their “ACTIONS” not just because they made it legal to smoke pot…

Ray Jan 7, 2018 - 6:23 am

How can one tell if you marijuana is the source they did say other drugs. If marijuana stays in the blood for 30 day. Shouldn’t they measure how many ppm is in the blood at time of crash to determine whether they are under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash. They may have smoked marijuana 2 weeks ago or a day ago. In other states they have a specific test that they do for the blood to find out if they’re under the influence at the time of the incident. I think if states are going to legalize marijuana they should be required to test by ppm’s in the bloodstream!

Preach!!! People just don’t get It.. Even “NYQUIL” has “SIDE EFFECT” Warnings on the label.. says right on the bottle ” DO NOT OPPERATE HEAVEY MACHINERY WHILE TAKING THIS MEDICATION”!!!….. BUT PEOPLE STILL DO!!! AND NYQUIL HAS ALWAYS BEEN LEGAL… DONT BLAME THE NEW LAW, BLAME THE “INDIVIDUAL” THAT IS RESPONSABLE!!!! THAT SIMPLE!!

Lola Saavedra Jan 7, 2018 - 11:41 am

You can tell it’s marijuana by the stench emitted from inside the vehicle. The putrid odor lingers for a very long time! I bet her breath alone gave her away! The stuff smells like what is sprayed out of the rear end of a skunk! Eeeewwwwww!

Nick Jan 7, 2018 - 10:15 am

Alcohol and drugs are BOTH dangerous. Duh.

kelley Jan 7, 2018 - 10:37 am

Ray… Hey there.. I don’t smoke, but I wanna ask you something.. Tell me if I’m wrong…. EXAMPLE ONE: You buy a six pack. Your in a hurry to get home. Six pack on the seat next to you. Your speeding. Get into an accident. The police report would HAVE TO STATE THAT “ALCOHOL WAS A FACTOR” wouldn’t it?? I mean shit, you had a long day, wanted to get home, kick back, drink a beer… So is that a DUI?? THATS LEGAL… EXAMPLE TWO: YOU GO TO THE DISPENSARY, YOU BUY YOUR “STUFF”. ITS IN YOUR GLOVEBOX. YOUR DRIVING, YOU ADJUST THE RADIO, SWERVED INTO THE OTHER LANE, HIT A CAR… “SHIT!” POLICE REPORT WOULD HAVE TO SAY “DRUGS WERE A “FACTOR”.. RIGHT?? ITS LEGAL NOW!!! PEOPLE JUST DONT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND… ITS AS SIMPLE AS DAY… ITS NOT DRUGS, ITS NOT ALCOHOL THAT ARE CAUSING ACCIDENTS, DEATHS. . ITS THE PERSON!!! IF THAT WERE THE CASE BUDWISER, JACK, JOSE…. THEYD ALL BE BROKE.. AM I WRONG???

Illegal Jan 10, 2018 - 12:02 am

You cant have alcohol in the seat next to you, its suppose to be out of reach when driving.

Engine52lover Jan 7, 2018 - 11:07 am

Thank you all you Democrat idiots who voted to legalize Marijuana. How more stupid can you be. I hope our stupid governor overturns this law after he’s seen all the damage that’s been done in so short amount of time. At least we got TRUMP in office!!!!!!!!!!

datadriven Jan 10, 2018 - 6:55 pm

the responisble marijuana user is fake news. unicorns and rainbows. far outnumbered by garbage like this lady. weed is easily detected in air by ppm percentage. eventually law enforcement will catch on and more dwis from weed will happen. until then dopeheads think they’ve won the lottery in CA.
