Concord: Man Acting Erratically Dies While Being Detained at Homeless Shelter

A man who was acting erratically died on Friday while being detained by Concord Police at the Concord Homeless Shelter on Arnold Industrial Way.

Here is the information released by Concord Police:

On February 8, 2019, at approximately 4:00 PM, the Concord Police Department received several 911 calls from staff at the Concord Homeless Shelter, 2047 Arnold Industrial Way, reporting a disturbance inside.

Staff reported that a man was acting erratically, yelling and being violent. Concord Police Officers and a Deputy from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office responded to the shelter and contacted the man inside. The man continued to act erratically while being detained and began to exhibit signs of being in medical distress.

Officers called for emergency medical aid and attempted to revive the man who had now become unresponsive. Paramedics arrived and also rendered aid, but the man was declared deceased.

As a result of the death, the Contra Costa County Law Enforcement Involved Fatal Incident Protocol was invoked. This case is being jointly investigated by the Concord Police Department, the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

The identity of the man who died is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is in the preliminary stages and no further information is available for release at this time.
