I hate Kirker Pass! It is a real death trap! The downhill portion on either side is way too steep. I’ve seen people panic as they attempt to drive there. It’s a nerve-wrecking white knuckle ride! While driving downhill (both ways) most just ride their brakes instead of putting the vehicle in second gear which slows the vehicle down. Whoever designed that road must have been a traffic engineering student who got barely passing grades … C- at best! The apex of that road must be shaved down or we will continue losing people there. The road has no street lights and if your headlights fail or car stalls, you are finished. Drives coming up behind you at night would not see you.

Claycord.com refuses to acknowledge that the vehicle was on the victim. So sad. RIP

The guy that runs Claycord.com comes across as very arrogant. Don’t let arrogant men get to you. That’s on them. Arrogant people are hard to like, but they’re still people too.

I have driven Kirker pass for over 40 years and have never even come close to losing control of my vehicle I’ve towed boats trucks with trailers high performance cars motorcycles passenger cars and suv’s, it’s not the road people it’s the drivers who don’t have the sense to drive at a safe speed. North bound drivers come over the top and just get going 70 or 80 mpph and then can’t maintain control through the s turns, it’s real simple pay attention and slow down period.

I’ve driven Kirker Pass since 1976, and I agree – it’s the driver. If you feel a road isn’t “safe” – don’t drive it.

I avoid Kirker Pass like the plague, but sometimes I have to take it because there’s a major freeway tieup (I-4). However, I stay in the right hand lane and keep my fingers crossed that there is no large fully-loaded truck inching it’s way to the apex! I’ve seen many “minor” collisions there mostly between 4-5 pm most of which appear to have occurred because of speed. For some reason, a lot of this happens near Hess Road.

Kirker Pass was not made for the amount of traffic it is currently handling. I think the speed limit should be 45 mph going down that hill to Pittsburg at the very least. I hate having drivers on my arse down that hill. I try to make sure everyone passes me going up and then you have those stupid construction trucks doing 15 mph. They shouldn’t be allowed on Kirker Pass PERIOD! Or any other large trucks for that matter!!!!!
