Community Mourns Loss of Jeremy “Lumpy” Sturgill

by ECT

Tuesday morning, the community lost an amazing person in Jeremy “Lumpy” Sturgill, 35 of Brentwood and owner of Lumpy’s Diner in Antioch.

Social media was filled with thoughts and prayers to Lumpy’s family with people leaving messages and posting photographs in support of him.

Lumpy and his wife Marci have had restaurants in Antioch, Brentwood and Pittsburg while he was also featured on the Food Networks “Outrageous Food” with Tom Pizzica–they featured his challenge the Dogpounder which is a 4 1/4 lb burger.

Lumpy was a kindhearted man who loved his family more than anything, would give anyone the shirt off his back to anyone and did so much for the community–a lot of times, the community had no idea how much this man gave back.

Just a few organizations he helped out include:

  • Car Shows
  • Supported East Contra Costa Fire Protection District
  • Special Kids Foundation
  • East County Little League
  • Supported many local veteran groups
  • Sponsored numerous sports teams
  • Supported the Tuberous Sclerosis Walks
  • Toys for Tots Christmas Drive

On a personal note, Lumpy was one of the first people to believe in EastCountyToday and sponsored our site when many said no. He did so because he saw the direction we were headed and believed the community needed the type of news we provide.  We are forever grateful to him for believing in us. Lumpy was bold, kind, smart, and lived life to the fullest. This is just not fair that his life was taken too soon as there was much more to his story to be written.

Our thoughts are with The Sturgill Family today and you can help support them as a GoFundMe Page has been created.

We encourage you to share your memories of “Lumpy” in the comment section as he was one of a kind and is irreplaceable.

Lumpy used to always say, “The One, The Only, Lumpy”… its true, no one else is like him.

Here are just a few photos we have taken over the last few years of Jeremy Sturgill.

I first met Lumpy when he was a short order cook at Diggers diner. He served me two coffin burgers and couldn’t believe a guy my size could put those away. LOL… I was so happy for him when he decided to branch out and open his own restaurant (Lumpy’s Diner). Every time I saw him he always had a kind word and his joking around always brought a smile to my face. He gave so much to the community even when times were tough on him and his family. He will be greatly missed by all who have met him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

My kids first met Jeremy when they were 10 yrs old and all went to Fortress Christian Center. These kids grew up to become great citizens of spectacular character. I remember through the years many times the neighborhood kids would meet at Digger’s Diner in Concord after playing ball across the street at Farm Bureau Park. I as of yet can’t accept his call up to heaven. So young,..RIP Jeremy.
